I'm looking at it now.

There's a review, apparently, here:

http://www.feministmormonhousewives.org/2013/08/please-take-this-important-survey/

"A new internet survey examining how Mormons use the Internet aims to explore how Mormons engage with online communities. This survey fills a gap in the existing literature within the Study of Media and Religion. The field of Media and Religion is growing quickly and is in desperate need of quality research about Mormonism. The literature that does exist is outdated and only anecdotal. Existing studies do not capture the complexity of Mormon life or community on the internet. The unique place of Mormonism and the positive interaction with technology has the potential to expand the discussion within academic circles, creating a constructive conversation. This survey and subsequent studies will help situate Mormonism and Mormons’ experiences in this important moment in history."

I am just getting more familiar with him and his work.

I don't trust Mormons, so as long as he retreats to Mormonism as the foundation of his life and arbitrator of his values and decisions, I don't think I will edify him and his work with my brilliance!

Ha!

When you get to the end of the survey it asks if they can contact you in 6 months "Yes (Email wanted)" or "No"

If you choose "No" you can not finish the survey...lol

I just put in a bogus email.

Often, as a researcher, its hard to get studies at one point in time taken seriously. They may not be doing missionary work but wanting to ask related questions at a different point in time. For many people, in six months of Internet research you can go from believer to questioner to apologist to exMormon. They may be looking for that phenomenon to ask about.

God knows his fearless leaders aren't either going to attempt it or if they do, do something that could even come close to succeeding.

Mormons know this is in their hands and that their leaders are washing their hands of it. Someone is going to be sacrificed. I hope it is Dehlin who goes to their cross from Mormonism.

They should do a survey on wearing garments.

How do you feel about wearing garments?
A. They are hot.
B. They are really hot.
C. They are really really hot.
D. Who wears long underwear these days? It's 2013! Oh and they are too hot.

How Do you feel about wearing garments?
A. They look stupid.
B. They look really stupid.
C. They look really really stupid.
D. Who wears long underwear these days? It's 2013! Oh and they look stupid.

You get the idea.

I wonder if they'd be okay with someone just getting the symbols tattooed on their bodies.

From the survey info: "The field of Media and Religion is growing quickly and is in desperate need of quality research about Mormonism."

Translation: "The mormon church needs to know where it's members are finding the truth about its history and practices so it can proevent them from accessing it in order to stop the hemorraging it is currently experiencing."

I agree. As exmos, we could take two tactics:

1) We can confuse the situation by listing all the antimormon sources that are most critical. That could push them to be more paranoid and sheltering.

2) We can list all the pro-mormon sites which allow some free thought. That would make them tighten the reigns on the sunstone members and push them away from the church.

What's the better strategy (hypothetically speaking)?

I don't expect we can get the crowd to do this, because exmos don't follow the leader.

Hmmm, interesting ideas. I am not really sure of the best way. I dont know that the answer will help them. If we say pro-truth sites, they may attempt to step up their persecution of them but that just helps advertise those 'anti' sites.

If we say sites like FAIR, not sure how they will take that - it depends if FAIR is helping people or making them leave. Also, to promote FAIR would just help their search rankings. It's a quandry.

Dehlin's surveys are interesting but statistically rather
worthless. For a survey to be statistically sound it has to do
something other than throw out a "hey, anyone wanna be in my
survey?" feeler. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING for a statistically
sound survey is a random sample. That is VERY hard to achieve.

To me, this looks like a church survey. I think he's asking the questions that the church wants to know the answers to. I don't think he's all that interested in the answers to those questions.

Why would he care which site I go on?

He's probably working for them and getting laid to do it.

Do you see the church doing this directly. Nope, me neither. In the past they use PR firms who probably had to do research to make the right connections. Dhelin already has a cult like following of people the church wants to retain. So what better way to tap into that group?

So yes the answer is he's their bitch! And probably getting paid for it.

I do think a non-Mormon PhD candidate would be onto a smart dissertation to explore Mormon fundamentalism and mainstreaming and perhaps contrast and compare to Muslim fundamentalism and mainstreaming.

The question I would love to see is how these fundamentalism behave when they are in charge and don't have to adapt and how they behave when they must adapt or are engaging as a weaker group. Judaism could also be in there too.

That's the survey I would answer. Not how do Mormons make a better impression inspite of themselves, not my concern.

Mormonism--a hybrid porcupine-skunk, it pricks and it stinks. Survey how to sell that.

They have to be paying him. He has to be getting something from the TSCC to pull the complete 180 he has. Some sort of promise for future leadership positions. 2nd post had it right, he is a tool.

Gee, I wonder why RfM didn't make the list, but so many other exmo boards did?

*makes innocent face*

I haven't been that curious, about others sites, but have come under the impression RfM has a bad boy/girl reputation. Not so warm and fuzzy compared to others.

I filled out the survey to reflect radical thinking for a mormon.
I then gave the stake presidents e-mail address.
