Did anyone else see this non-sense? They're claiming that Joseph Smith may have been visited by a space alien and that the BoM is a text given by space aliens. I was screaming at my TV, "He made the whole thing up!" Then I thought, maybe if J.S. had taken this angle the whole DNA thing wouldn't have bit him in the butt.

as crazy as it sounds, you can't actually disprove it either

Hmmm. Maybe the BofM is true after all-- it all took place on a different planet! The dish-shaped submarines actually weren't submarines at all, they were SPACESHIPS!

Time to change the intro page again. Maybe the Church could say "The Lamanites are among the descendants of world from a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away"

It all makes sense now!

They got so much wrong though, that was the funny thing. I wish I could remember some of the details, but they got a lot of stuff wrong. They started talking about Buddah possibliy being an alien and I kept thinking to myself, "Okay, if they got all that junk wrong about J.S., what are they getting wrong about Buddah?" I wonder how many people take this crap at face value.

Aliens gave me engraved plates on Neptunium, and you can't disprove that either.

Anyone read Heinlein's "Stranger in a Strange Land"? J.S. totally could have taken the space alien angle and he could have claimed that the aliens told him what to write in the BoM. This just goes to show you how stupid J.S. was.

I remember seeing that years ago. I couldn't decide if they were playing a joke on Mormons or if they were seriously interpreting the Smith story that way. If the latter, then I guess that shows about how fast and loose they play with the facts on the History channel. but it's pretty funny if it was a joke.

I'm thinking the aliens told him to screw 14 year-olds too.

A completely bogus production which does nothing to enhance any desire it may have had to be a credible source for real science, factual chronicling or rational thinking. Ratings have trumped reputation.

Can't wait till the History Channel does a special on Christian Science. And Sciencology. Or how about Christian Sciencology? What if L.Ron Hubbard was the reincarnation of Mary Baker Eddy?

(*shudder*)
