Reading houseonsand's post about baby blessings made me wonder more about them.

My husband wants me to go to a baby blessing in the Fall. It would require traveling by airline.
As a nevermo, I've never been to one.

Once I found out that it's something where all the man stand up at the altar, it just bothered me. I don't yet know if I will attend.

My question is how long does a baby blessing last? Is it a quick little ceremony during the sacrament meeting? What type of things do they do/say?

Knowing more about it will help me make my decision.

Yup, it's a quick little prayer during sacrament meeting. Frequently, there is an open house in someone's home after church.

Particularly if an old school head of the family has been brought in to do the honors. Zzzzzzzzzzzzz.

If you're buying flight tickets, it's definitely not worth it.

It's faux-revelation from the locals to the baby where the men can reassert their patriarchal authority. Besides, blessing are short, noisy, and all the same (boring).

Actually it to give a name and a father's blessing.
It is the process whereby the babies name is forever associated with the organization.

This can also establish a birth date in later years.
My father was born before Arizona issued birth certificates.
Upon retirement this was the document by which his age was established for social securty.

That would be a long flight and much money just hear some penisholder say a prayer. Which is about all it really is and last about 2 / 3 min. Then back to normal Sacrament meeting / testomumble meeting. Then then talks on paying tithing and attending the temple, bla bla bla.

That's pretty much it.

Fly to Vegas and see a show instead.

The blessings almost always include such things as serving a mission, marrying in the temple etc. I always left those parts out! But I put in some super things in their place.

unless of course things have changed since I was involved. Sitting through listening to a whole bunch of TBMs stand up and proclaim how they know the church is true is fairly painful for someone who knows the truth!

I wouldn't bother..nevermind throw money away on tickets!!!
