Hi all,

In the past 22 hours since the Facebook page protesting the church's sexually invasive interviews went live, we've received 89 "likes." I've also allotted a small budget to test a Facebook ad campaign for the next few days.

Here's the link to the page (or you can simply search for "No More: End Mormons' Sexually Invasive Interviews of Children").

https://www.facebook.com/pages/No-More-End-Mormons-Sexually-Invasive-Interviews-of-Children/503622079732706

If you have a FB account, please like the page and if you feel comfortable doing so, share it with your friends. To share, visit the FB page, then click on the gear/sprocket icon near the upper-right corner. Select "share" from the drop-down menu. A pop-up window will appear where you can write your own message and then post the "No More Interviews" page to your wall for everyone to see.

Finally, in the coming days I will reach out to various blog authors, journalists, etc. to bring more attention to the site, and more importantly, to this deplorable practice.

It needs to end.

Thanks,

Fallen Moroni

I love to see exmo's taking action. Sometimes those efforts get a lot more attention than we ever thought they would.

The Mormon church doesn't like people criticizing or turning the light on things they are doing. They've been allowed to torment their flock with interviews for decades.

Those interviews made my life miserable when it didn't have to be.

Fallen Moroni,

Here are links to Facebook accounts for celebrities that may be likely to be supportive of your Facebook page. Many of these links also have Twitter accounts too. The approach should be written to a PR person or manager/assistant that you are trying to persuade to put this in front of the personality. Excuse me if that it obvious. As the organizer of the page you have special credibility.

Almost all of these people are or were Mormon, are demonstrably sympathetic to causes such as this and have over 100,000 followers. You will be throwing an amplifier on this cause of just one of them shares this page with their community. It's how Social Media works. Maybe you'll get the opportunity to talk with one of them in person or on their show about the issues.

Best.

FWIW, many in the gay community are open to collaborations on sharing information about the Mormon church. Those former Mormons and Mormons that are sympathetic to the gay community also are open to sharing information that has likely damages themselves or their loved ones.

Mandy Moore, which is the voice for Rapunzel in Tangled would be an interesting choice, TBM girls I love might find her support for this website, she has less of a following, but you could inform her about how many young people who leave Mormonism find their story in Tangled.

The way many things go viral aren't through direct education, but through shock, entertainment, or endorsement.

A very clever 30 second YouTube Video with the right ampliefier (celebrity) could do the trick. Funny or Die type work would be a good model, they've gone viral several times.

This content is relevant to your subject. Especially the part where they talk about male masturbation and female menstruation. I don't know of their handbooks for the seventies are available, but I imagine they were even more ridiculous.

The concept of "sin" is what is so valuable here. Mormons seem so confident in what is sin. Masturbation is sin and homosexuality is sin. Is there any accountability for harassing 14 year-olds about their sexuality as "sin"? I imagine not, these nice father and grandpa figures are there to help make sure these kids stay chaste, nothing more.

Quote

"Masturbation is not physically necessary. There is already a way by which the male system relieves excessive spermatic fluid quite regularly through the nocturnal emission or wet dream. Monthly menstrual flow expels the female’s egg and cleanses the womb. For both sexes, physical or emotional tensions can be released by vigorous activity. Thus, in a biological sense, masturbation for either gender is not necessary. In a gospel sense, it is a sin: “Masturbation, a rather common indiscretion, is not approved of the Lord nor of His Church regardless of what may have been said by others whose ‘norms’ are lower. Latter-day Saints are urged to avoid this practice” (Spencer W. Kimball, Love Versus Lust, Brigham Young University Speeches of the Year [Provo, 5 Jan. 1965], p. 22)."

Unquote, TSM

Good to have 1965 keeping an eye on 2013. Wouldn't want to do anything rash, like dispel outdated human sexuality fabrications. Anything better understood since 1965 Mormon Church, or were those really the good old days.

"Masturbation is not physically necessary... Monthly menstrual flow expels the female’s egg and cleanses the womb."

I'm sorry, WHAT? How are those two things even related?! Female masturbation does not cause ova to be released. I don't know any women who derive sexual satisfaction from menstruation. What? What the hell are they talking about?!

Clearly this was written by old men with no understanding of female reproductive biology.

The point they are trying to make here is irrelevant because it's deflecting from the real problem, which is grown men with no experience or training in counseling, take children into a room alone and ask them extremely personal questions. There is NO excuse as to why this is appropriate. Even if Mormons are counseled to not masturbate, they should NOT be allowing strange men to corner their children and ask them about it. Period.

Masturbation is simply a synonym for vigorous activity. Problem solved.

Unfortunately, RfM is the only social network I will ever be involved in. However, there's a loophole I learned as a kid that should solve our little problem:

"Having been commissioned of Fallen Moroni, I "like" RfM for, and in behalf of, 'No More: End Mormons' Sexually Invasive Interviews of Children', which is dead to me, in the name of the Raptor, the BlueOrchid, and the Anagrammy. Amen."

Now bow your heads and say 'like'

Even just asking the question, "Do you follow the law of chastity?" is sexually invasive. I think this should be mentioned on the FB page.

Thanks for the support, everyone. In just 1.5 days, we've garnered 221 "likes" and the conversation is starting to ramp up on the page.

I'm going to create a public-facing blog as well, so people who aren't on Facebook can join the discussion. So much to do -- so little time after work each night.

Bit by bit, we'll raise awareness and put an end to the madness.

This is what happens when untrained people take on dealing with issues like this with children

Would posting the names of the bishop doing the interview help to get these stories out there and more urgent?

If I was a bishop, and my name became part of a public discussion about sex talk with a minor...

I'd be be calling Monson and company begging to change the program or stop the questioning all together.

I said it here yesterday and I'll say it again: Fallen, I sincerely hope when this invasive practice is halted, you will say, "I did that."

Rock on brother!
