My therapist offers different fees based on family wages-you just need to show last year's taxes for verification. I only pay $20 a session, which is less than what would I would pay with insurance. Psychology Today has a therapist search (http://therapists.psychologytoday.com/rms/prof_search.php) but that is only therapists who are registered on the site. You might try doing a Google or check

I wish I had known about this before I joined too. I was 16 and had just moved to a new city. Everyone was so nice to me, and who was I to turn down friends? I do remember receiving gifts for my birthday (approximately one week after my baptism) from people I didn't even know that well.

Sermon behind the Pulpit Jeff Fullmer, Idaho, USA "As my family sat a few rows behind the deacons one sacrament meeting, all I could think about before the opening hymn was that one of the deacons had failed to properly tie his long tie and correctly tuck in his wrinkled shirt. I thought someone should have helped him out. After all, when passing the sacrament, deacons should be an exa

Children should absolutely hear about religion regardless if the parents are religious or not. I suggest reading: Raising Freethinkers: A Practical Guide to Parenting Beyond Belief and Parenting Beyond Belief: On Raising Ethical, Caring Kids without Religion Both of these books are by Dale McGowan and are a how-to guide on how to address religion. It is important to teach a child

They also mistakenly think that the information is accurate and that they ask for permission before baptizing non-relatives. My grandmother was baptized postmortem long before I ever joined the church. We were the only members in our family when we did join. Also, she was baptized as a man. When my mom and I went to the temple to fix the information, the temple worker argued with us. The templ

I used to be this way...to a point. When I was in Young Women we each chose a "special" member to which to deliver a pie. The leaders never told us what "special" meant and, at the time, I assumed maybe they were sick or going through a rough time. I only found out after my visit that these people were inactive members we were trying to reactivate. Anyways, when I visited the

We had to draw modest clothing on pre-drawn girls. We had a testimony meeting and went for a hike. There was a lot of scripture study. Oh yeah, and during one "testimony" meeting a leader publicly humiliated me regarding my sleepwalking disorder. Fun times...not. I was a convert so I knew what church camp should be like. At Methodist Church camp we did have worship services but we

Some of the information can be incorrect too. After my grandmother passed, she was baptized as a man. When I went to the temple to correct the information they practically interrogated me..."Are you sure she's female?" "Yes, she gave birth to my mother." I mean, if my grandmother wasn't female, then that would have made her a homosexual since she married a man.

@greengobbledyguck Thanks for the clarification about the KC temple! I didn't know it was in Clay County.

I don't live in Missouri but I recently travelled to Kansas City to visit family and I just *HAD* to stop in the "Holy Land." Here's what I know: There is a temple visitors center located across the street from the temple lot where the temple will be built in the supposed latter days. The LDS church does not own the lot, it is owned by the Commmunity of Christ church (formerly RLDS).

I attended Girls' Camp in 2006. As a convert, I was expecting a church camp similar to a Methodist camp I had attended several years prior. Boy, was I wrong! Girls' camp should be renamed indoctrination camp. The only "arts and crafts" activity we did involved drawing modest clothing on a drawing of a young woman. One girl at camp didn't draw the girl's shirt with sleeves and the camp d

When I was 13, I was running outside when I fell and hit the ground really hard. I remember seeing my body laying on the ground for what seemed like a really long time. When I regained consciousness, I woke up in the exact same position as I remember seeing when my spirit was detached from my body. I didn't see a tunnel or anything, I just had what I determined to be an out-of-body experience

I know that's why I was targeted. My parents and I had just moved into a new town. We had problems finding an apartment so a Mormon friend connected us with a Mormon landlord. He helped us find an apartment on one condition: we take missionary lessons. I had taken the missionary lessons before and decided not to join, so I figured this time would be the same. These missionaries (and members they

I saw this note on a Missionaries Facebook page. Apparently Facebook still cannot be used to keep in contact with friends and family from home. This message just shows how much brainwashing still occurs in the church. "because this is my missionary facebook page i will only be having gospel centered conversations, quotes and comments posted on here. For those who live in my current a

Does anyone remember the ridiculous "modesty" lessons taught in Church? I still own the knee length shorts from when I was LDS (they still fit, so I wear them regularly). Well one of them recently got a hole in it that is not repairable so I had to buy another pair of shorts. My new shorts hit me about mid-thigh. The funny thing is, it feels weird to wear them. My mind is so warped f

Good for you! I love that you said, "Is there some sort of rumor going around the ward that I have amnesia or alzheimers?" You never forget what the cult teaches. You couldn't pay me enough to take a tour. Just of the thought of it makes me cringe!

I bet the Boy Scouts (Young Men) went to a better camp! The first and only time I went to Girls' Camp was at Camp Hinckley. The place was INFESTED with bees (a larger amount of bees in the area than is normal). The Young Men went to Catalina Island off the California coast.

Mormons fail to realize that the members are the Church. Without them members it is simply a building with 4 walls.

How can anyone who is not a white, heterosexual male be Mormon? Some people are easily brainwashed to ignore the obvious. I once asked a young woman why she was a Mormon even though she was a Feminist. She said that "women don't need the priesthood." Apparently she wants equality in all sectors of her life but her religion. If the LDS church was "the one true church" then God

Thanks everyone! I think that sometimes it is okay to not forgive someone. I never really forgave my molester nor will I ever forgive my so-called sister for marrying him after it happened (they were dating at the time.) She knew it happened and said she didn't care.

I believed part of it- the restoration of the church, and the possibility of prophets being on Earth today. However, I was vulnerable as well. I just moved 2000 miles to a new city and the Mormons were really good at love-bombing (which is why I joined).

Eight years ago today, I was baptized into the LDS Church. I stayed active for two years, inactive for one year, and then officially removed my membership. I've changed a lot since that day. I am a more of a cynic because, through the Mormon church, I learned that I can't trust people just because they are in leadership positions. I used to be hardcore religious but now I consider myself a

I don't think I ever had a real testimony either. I only once said "I know the church is true" and that was when I went tracting with the sister missionaries. We had stopped at a woman's house and she said, "Why wouldn't you think the Church is true? You grew up in it!" I immediately responded, "I am a convert and I know the church is true." She was surprised I was a
