Actually, prices have gone up since universities are no longer as accountable to the government after the Bayh-Dole Act. They now operate essentially as corporations.

Hmm. Isn't it more about supply and demand? Most jobs are going to be digital soon. Unfortunately we don't have a model yet outside of the university that trains people for those jobs. Universities also stand to profit from student labor, whether as athletes or in "entrepreneurship" programs, etc.

Professorial compensation has declined. Adjuncts are the majority now. Most are not tenure track or tenured. A sizable number of college instructors are at poverty level or beneath it and have to use food stamps.

Yes, but in my experience many transfer students from 2-year colleges end up having to spend additional years at UCs, which are some of the most expensive schools around. Most take 5 years or more to graduate. So that's still about $180,000 of debt for a LOT of students.

One problem is that you need a B.A./B.S. or above for ANY job nowadays unless you are working in a particular vocation. In my post-B.A. job search I would have needed a master's degree for almost anything. I lucked out and got a job with health insurance fairly quickly, but would have been paid at least $10,000 more a year with any grad degree. So the demand keeps rising and rising. You really ca

I recently read a marriage book/memoir by a woman who has a blog I really enjoy. It's mildly Christian but didn't seem too overwhelmingly churchy. In the first few pages, she admitted her "porn addiction" and "erotica addiction." I hoped maybe that would be that and she'd move on...but later there was an entire chapter about how her fantasies while watching porn a couple times

Only 3 percent of animals are monogamous......and not the smartest ones.

But that would mean women could have multiple partners as well...in Mormon polygamy, they can't. So it's not just about polyamory, it's about a fundamental inequality.

Your last sentence is the funniest and truest part of the whole thing. The same folks who claim to hate Islam would actually get along quite well with highly conservative Muslims--more than most of right of center, moderate and liberal America.

It actually does, recent studies show it affects your ability to orgasm, your feelings about your partner and their attractiveness, your feelings of intimacy towards your partner, etc. ** I AM NOT ANTI PORN PLEASE DON'T ATTACK ME** I only look at actual peer reviewed studies though, not the Christian anti-porn crowd. They take it way too far. For the record, it's also not a gendered issue like

Don't forget using phrases like safe space and a condescending tone, and claiming everyone else is a bigot, because that somehow makes you more right!

Exactly. We're all supposed to be ok with Jesus fairy tales and prayer and creationism being taught in schools and 'tolerant' of that and anything less is religious persecution. BUT, if we teach that kids shouldn't bully other kids for cross dressing, it's pushing a political agenda and not being inclusive. Hmm. TMSH, you want creationism to be presented in schools as viable even though it's b

"And I see your specific views on inclusion stop short of those that disagree with you." You're projecting. Stop seeing yourself as persecuted. You're not. The old, tired 'tolerate my intolerance and include my non inclusion' argument is all you've got, eh? Got it. The fact is, some kids will dress in dresses. You will encounter that in your lifetime. Telling kids not to bully

Free Man, get to know some better women. The fact that you don't is on you. If all I saw around me were trashy men I'd think 1) I was also trashy and deserved what I got or 2) I was looking for the negative, or 3) I was making them behave in a trashy way. You seem to see negatives in women and assume you're perfect and they all suck, yet the common denominator in 'all the women YOU know' is YOU.

I'm always interested in people who claim persecution for their views while demanding that public institutions cater to their own. People did the same thing in every era of social movements and the social movements always win...

Wow, sounds like a terrible first grade--first graders learn a lot more than that these days. Anyway, did you look up the actual book? It's an anti bullying book about not mocking or bullying other kids for looking or acting different than you. If a family has some major issue with that then yeah, I'd prefer their kid not be in a school with my kid. If they prefer to homeschool that's fine wit

Girls wearing pants was considered heinous cross dressing at the time that it became more popular. Comparing this to a tutu is ridiculous.

Instead of an emotional rant meant to give personal insults, which adds zero credibility to your argument, it would be better to provide a single example of a scientist who has published a pro-creationist study or article in a peer-reviewed journal. Where is these competing data? Where has it been published? By whom? If you don't have a scrap of evidence, I understand why you would resort to whin

Creationism has been debunked a million times over by every scientist on the planet except a select few with an explicitly religious agenda who have never published in peer-reviewed journals. It has no place in public school. Teach myths/religious beliefs in church or religious schools. That's what they're for. This idea that 'all opinions are valid' is simply untrue. I can believe that 2+2=

The theatre students at our school tend to go on to have successful careers...but many of them become directors, dramaturgs, production managers, stage managers, lighting designers, costume designers, or set designers, or they go on to grad school or become theatre educators or high school teachers or professors. Some work in arts nonprofits or are literary managers of theatres. We've also had ma

That's untrue. The visual and performing arts category TOGETHER (including things like graphic design, music education, etc., that lead directly to careers) make up 3.8% of majors, while engineering (quite a small field) make up 3.5%. By far the most popular major is business, which is usually not a passion project but doesn't actually lead to lucrative careers most of the time. http://www.
