Thanks for the feedback. I'm thinking of doing a targeted Facebook ad campaign to just members in my stake. Just to see how it does. I live on the east coast so not too many members even know about them. These essays need to get out there to people.

I finally got around to updating the site with the links to the essay translations on LDS.org. The homepage[1] was updated with links to each translation. The translation links are located under the blurb for each essay. I also created a translations[2] page that lists the languages and the titles of the essays in the corresponding language. Last I checked, the essays had been translated i

Listen to the great series entitled "Who Wrote the Book of Mormon" on the Infants on Thrones podcast. They discuss competing theories with experts on each. A great listen!! http://infantsonthrones.com/who-wrote-the-book-of-mormon-part-1/ http://infantsonthrones.com/who-wrote-the-book-of-mormon-part-2/ http://infantsonthrones.com/who-wrote-the-book-of-mormon-part-3/

1) What language did you learn? Portugese 2) Did you speak it at all prior to your mission? No, but I spoke a little Spanish. My mom is a Spanish teacher, it helped me learn quickly due to the many similarities. 3) Approximately how long ago did you serve your mission? 18 years ago. 4) Did you do anything after your mission to cement your knowledge (College major, live abroad, bilingual

So very true. She takes every opportunity she can to make sure I know she's my mom and she "raised me right". My parents came to visit one Sunday and I directed her to where we sit on the 4th row. She says, "you don't sit on the 1st row? I thought I taught you better than that." FML.

She would ground me if she could. I really believe she would. My parents just can't leave their kids alone, they have no boundaries. My father told me to stop playing poker after Gordon Hinkley mentioned it during General Conference. I believe I was 32 at the time. To get a taste of how controlling my parents try to be, read my post from about a year ago: http://exmormon.org/phorum/read.

I finally had a discussion about the church with my super TBM mother. I told her that I'm a responsible adult, capable of making informed decisions. She responds by telling me that I'm still a child and that I don't know what I'm doing. Yeah, that conversation didn't get us anywhere.

Hahaha. There's a quote by Martin Harris that I wish I could find again. It goes something like, "Joe tells me that the plates could be in the middle of the road yet he would be the only one that could see them." Or something like that. The plates were a figment of Joe's imagination.

Saw that you served in the same mission at the same time, Brasilia 1996. Email me at mormonessays@gmail.com, maybe we know each other.

Nah, we didn't do anything shady, at least I never did. I know of two or three people that I stay in touch with that are still active. Most aren't.

I went to Brasilia as well, 94-96. Was Hanks your mission president? I baptized around 60-70.

I plan to create a page that shows the edits to each essay over time, I just haven't gotten around to doing it.

This is exactly why I made the Mormon Essays site. A single location with links to all the essays. I tried to make it as TBM friendly as possible.

I refuse to sing that song when it's done in sacrament meeting. Members have no clue who Joseph really was. They laugh and scorn Warren Jeffs for what he has done without realizing it's no different than what Joseph did. No way those same members would follow Joseph if he were alive today.

Nah, that was due to all of the news coverage of the Polygamy essays. Maybe them including the full list of essays was influenced by the site but we'll never know. Nice to think of for

Won't happen, because there is no explanation. The only explanation they *can* use is that it was *loose* translation. A translation where Joseph was granted creative license with content that wasn't "important" to the story.

I built the Mormon Essays site to just get the word out about the essays. The church seemed reluctant to publish a full list of the recent essays, so I did it for them. They did, after the recent news coverage of the Polygamy essay, post the list of essays but they only posted the list on the Newsroom site. I'm sure most members won't find the list there either. Here are the results for the

I'm writing some code that will keep an up to date version history of each essay on my website, http://mormonessays.com. I hope to have it up and running in the next couple days.
