I don't know if we're living in a simulation or not, but I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss it. On the surface, it sounds ludicrous, but there are good reasons many people believe we are. I don't know how anybody can determine what is "real". I was certain I had reality figured out at one point (mormon belief) but now the only thing I'm sure about is that I actually know very little

I started then I quit. Couldn't answer the questions. Is it worse to be unjust or merciless. Couldn't decide. Both are bad. Too many questions like that.

Irregardless of who's a wonderful person and who's a terrible person, it looks like, other than the $200, which doesn't go very far, you and your boyfriend are on your own. I suggest you seek whatever resources and help are available, and do whatever you can, because it appears you're not going to get much support from your family. If you're affected by SAD, you might want to consider reloc

I'd agree with at least a 95% chance. But he wasn't any more magical or divine than anybody else. He was just a guy.

I don't have a clue how to tell if somebody is gay or not. I don't think my wife is gay but her girlfriend sure is. Seriously, though, it could be several things and being gay could be one of the possibilities. It could be a physical problem, such as low testosterone. He might want to get a checkup. Perhaps the thrill of new sex has just worn off. He could prefer porn. Their c

The dam itself is fine and not in danger, at least not in the short to mid term. What is in danger is the 30 foot tall emergency spillway. If it fails, the top 30 feet of the reservoir, which is a very large amount of water, will uncontrollably leave the reservoir. This is much, much better than the entire dam failing, but still very serious and still would do an incredible amount of damage.

The current racist policy is that you'll never see depiction of a mixed race family in any church magazine. It's always an all-white family, an all-Japanese family, all-Mexican family, etc. You won't even see a family that is mixed race by adoption. The only exception is the conference issues where they publish a lot of photos of the crowds from Temple Square.

Hows does your friend explain current racist LDS policies regarding mixed races?

So I was devastated when I realized Mormonism wasn't true. I studied Joseph Smith, the Book of Mormon and the Church intensively hoping to get my belief back, but that is the opposite of what to do when you want your belief back. So I took comfort that although I didn't believe in Mormonism, but at least I was still a Christian, but I wasn't sure what type of Christian to be as there are so

Yeah, good luck with that. It's not going to happen. If this was a board for Ex-Catholics, people here would know that "the Church" refers to the Catholic Church. It's the same thing here.

I'm sure your Grandma would want you to be true to your convictions. I'd go up with the others, but sing your own lyrics. I suggest "Super Freak" by Rick James.

Regarding your statement: "...it seems it is misleading about whether it is the best place to spot Orcas or not." I'm not sure if you're talking about me or somebody else, but if you're talking about me, I never said that Orcas Island is the best place to see Orcas, but I certainly did say/imply there are a lot of Orcas around there.

Wow, I thought NHM was a huge coincidence, but after reading Steve Benson's post, it's obvious that it's not a coincidence at all. It's a case of apologists taking little bits and pieces that are unrelated and trying to relate them by any means necessary. Sort of like forcing a square peg through a round hole, it just doesn't work. But when they think nobody's looking, they shave that

As I was writing the post, it entered my mind that some TBMs would find a way to use this to re-enforce their beliefs.

This is a photo of an orca leaping out of the water, possibly out of sheer joy that it isn't a Mormon and isn't forced to sit through a three hour block every Sunday, but who knows: http://i.imgur.com/RmE9GCy.jpg The island in the background is Orcas Island. It is the largest Island in Washington State's San Juan archipelago. The waters surrounding Orcas island are frequented by so many o

I, my wife, and two kids used it and it's legit. The guy that runs it is just a good dude. The Church doesn't screw around when a lawyer is involved. They just send a letter back to the lawyer stating that you're no longer a member.

Wait, do we know that's really Steve, or is it somebody commenting on Steve's prior post's. "^" talks about Steve in third person a lot. Makes me wonder. I just drop in every now and then, so I don't follow every little thing that's going on. I do miss Steve's posts, though. I hope he starts a blog (or something similar), because I'd love to keep reading him, whether it's mo-

Funny follow up story. So I had realized the Church wasn't true in any way. I decided to not do anything rashly, but to take my time, explore the situation from all possible angles and be sure of my decisions and conclusions. As you can guess, it became harder and harder to do this and going to Church became difficult because sooner or later, in rural Utah, somebody's gonna start spouting

Jdoubledub, It's possible your SP was telling the truth and it's possible your wife didn't know anything about it. In my former ward in rural Utah, stake leaders would come visit our ward twice a year for the purpose of visiting inactive members with us. Usually a few weeks in advance, in ward council or PEC, the Bishop would explain what was going to happen and ask us to come up with a

I watched the discussion with Tyson. I had heard about the concept that we're all living in a simulation before and thought it was pretty wacky. Tyson got my curiosity up so I listed to his arguments and did some research and now I think it's definitely within the realm of possible. I don't think I would go so far as to say it's "probable" at this time, but I don't think it's as har

donbagley, I have good news for your father. Spoiler alert: Very bad things happened to Isaac. Abraham and Isaac went up the mountain, but only one of them came down. The chapter containing their story was obviously edited by a later writer who didn't like the ending. The clue is to look at how they refer to God. Part of the text he is refered to as "God", the other part he is
