But a scientific study can be. And the "Scientist" might use a flawed method to get the results s/he wants. And what I was trying to say was that there are ways that Scientits have to weed out these flawed findings. Bad science is usually preliminary findings, but bad preliminary findings do not hold up. Like an idiot I posted this without making sure I made myself clear. Like I got to

I wonder where Satan got all of this bargaining power. God likes making concessions to Satan, I guess. "If my children don't follow my covenants they will be in your power Satan. You will have more power over them when they are in the water. I will also give you increased power over them if they are foolish enough to stay up after midnight. Also, since I want so much to impress you, you can

Maybe what you were looking for was a community to belong to, so if you decide to leave the Catholic church, which is up to you, you could find groups who meet around a common interest or cause. You could look on Meetup.com. Or you could find a humaniarian group that you could really get behind. If you put in the work you can find people in your life to give you that community.

I learned the same kinds of things. Isn't it horrible that as a child you learn that you are responsible for your parent's happiness? You can't live the life you want because they don't want any empty chairs in the celestial kingdom. I still have the hardest time not feeling responsible for other's happiness.

I've heard over and over that many people are addicted after looking once.I don't know of any official position, but I think the general feeling is that if you have tried to stop and haven't succeeded then you are addicted, even if it was only something like a monthly occurrence.

Faith: This idea feels so right that it is true. Science: Try this idea out and see how it works in the real world. Faith: Cling to anything that confirm's my idea. Science: Try to prove the idea wrong. If it holds up to the tests then it's probably a useful idea. Faith: I can't be wrong about this. Science: I could be mistaken. I will put my findings and my methods out there for other

Ok I did a bad job with this one. I need to avoid sarcasm that doesn't translate, or clearly label it. I ran out of time composing this and shouldn't have posted it until I had more time to make it coherent. I meant to say that studies can be flawed and so can contradic each other, or can be used unenthically to get media attention and cloud issues, but those contradictions are resolved as studie

My apologies. I know I did a bad job communicating my sarcasm. On the other hand, it looks like you read through your own post 12 times. I should have at least re-read mine before posting. I can't help but think you didn't read my whole post?

Thank you. I meant to say that I am not a scientist and that these are some things that I could think of to watch for in a study.

{Edited in Wed. 8:49 AM: Title is sarcasm. Science isn't based on Faith.} The problem is more with journalists and ignorance in the general population than with science itself. If people understood a few things, unscrupulous Journalists, scientists, and lawyers couldn't get away with publishing {any} study results as science. 1. Correlation is not proof of causation. A study that finds 3 out of

Amateur advice is also dispensed without charge. I don't remember making disparaging remarks when anyone expresses their belief or the benefits their religion gives them, but I tend to get kind of hot under the collar when the argument is basically "Mormon beliefs are stupid because they aren't like ours."

There isn't any reason to feel bad. It's better for all of us if we all speak our minds. All of my semi-on-topic essays on RFM are currently available for free and worth every penny ;)

Basically back then I saw movies like "Truman Show" and "Pleasantville" as clever tactics by Satan to weaken the faith of LDS people. What is funny about that is I also clearly saw that these shows applied, that the church seemed to be using similar tactics. Looking back my main thought was to defend my family members. They couldn't possibly be that wrong.

Like the sin of not doing home/visiting teaching. I sinned by not visiting people once a month who probably didn't want to be bothered, and I knew they didn't want to be bothered and I hated to call and bother them.

I am another reason that people hate atheists. Luckily not enough of them know me to make a real difference. But on the issue of Morals. Moral teachers teach people not to trust themselves, as if the desire to be kind to others has to be enforced. I think that research into happiness seems to show that caring for others leads to our own well being. My own theory is that our concept of ours

I mean I stopped feeling guilty. Then since I didn't feel bad I wasn't constantly reminded. Then just thought about other things more. And I stopped feeling the need to look at it. I didn't feel like it had some mysterious evil power.
