This morning I got a voicemail from a man saying he is my HT and wants to visit me. I sent my bishop a letter a few months ago asking not to be contacted by anyone from the church. I have not had any contact since then. Why is a HT trying to meet with me all of a sudden? Is it true that "do not contact" lists do not exist anymore?

I'm a college freshman who has recently lost my belief in the church as well. I know exactly what you mean when you say you feel humiliated. Listening to my mom (the only active member in my family) talk about her calling and anything involving church makes me feel embarrassed for her in an odd way. I also find it humiliating when people who know about my Mormon past say anything about it or assu

I came across my patriarchal blessing today. Reading it for the first time since leaving the church I actually found it to be funny. Here are some quotes I enjoyed “Study the gospel intently. Study the scriptures, especially the Book of Mormon.” Because the Bible doesn’t really matter, right? “We live in a troubled world where there are many evils amongst us. Satan would weave his

An exit story on postmormon.org I was in shock at first. Now I just feel relieved that I can live my life the way I want to.

I was told by a YW leader that we couldn't drink tea or coffee because of the tannins, not because of the caffeine. She said that the tannins can cause cancer. I looked it up later and read that the tannins in tea can actually have health benefits and have even been shown to inhibit replication of the HIV virus. Tannins are also in things like grapes and cranberries, but I don't see those being

Even as a TBM I thought EFY was a horrible experience. I definitely think it would be even worse for someone who doesn't believe in the church. The last time I went was 4 years ago. Here are some of the things I absolutely hated: -Waking up at the crack of dawn for devotionals. I actually had to teach a devotional to my group one time. -Devotionals at night before going to bed -Personal scri

When I was 15 the bishop told me to keep an eye on a girl who was my age that obviously didn't believe. Even though I was still TBM I thought it was sick he would ask me to do that and never told him anything. Once my laurels class president told the bishop as well as the YM/YW leaders and class presidencies in a meeting that I drank alcohol. In my next bishop interview he asked if I followe

How did the church get money to build that huge mall? I thought they only made money from tithing, but in a news article someone posted on here somewhere it says no tithing is being used to fund it.

I was raised to make the Mormon church my top priority and expected to be the perfect Molly Mormon. My parents would look down on me if I had deep questions about the doctrine or disagreed with anything. As I got older and more curious about the outside world and what my peer group was doing, my parents became more controlling over what I did. If I wanted to hang out with someone they didn't appr

I called SLC and they only gave me a phone number and said there was no address or e-mail available. Would it be ok to send a letter to the address of the chapel addressed to the bishop?

Thanks for the advice! Is there a way I can find out who the bishop is and where to send a letter without talking to any ward members?

I'm a frequent lurker here, and I've never really felt a need to post until now. I'm currently in my first year of college, and learned about the real history of the church about a month before leaving. When I first moved into my apartment my mom took me to the ward here so I would know people when I went again by myself. Everyone in my family has left the church except for her, and I don't ha
