Only problem with this, OD, is that at some point - probably sooner than later - the church will require you to attest / commit to the absolute truth of what it teaches - very difficult to remain an observer. Sooner or later, you and your kids will be required to show your absolute commitment to the LDS church - either through a calling as a teacher, or a request for a blessing, request to bear t

I could be wrong but I think you'll find that this takeover is not a threat to the average Zimbabwean - it's an attempt by the military to rid the country of certain corrupt advisors to the ninety-three year old president. I've wondered for years why the Zimbabwean people have put up with the corrupt regime that has ruined the country. Now, apparently, the military has had enough and is taking ac

Now you're talking - temple sessions sprinkled with the occasional cat fight or dog-chasing-cat, with all the barking and caterwauling ; not to mention the clean up afterwards. They'd probably insist that patrons bring their own pooper-scoopers.

I think the queen of England ( Elizabeth Regina ) pronounces it ' Regeena'.

Hey, that's a thought - the church has sold off its buildings before. There was also a chapel in Tonga ( I think ) that the gov't seized and turned into a restaurant. From memory, the church didn't adhere to regulations re the building.

Maybe it's the way they pronounce 'Fukuoka '- that would be off-putting to me.

You make a good point - There are probably those who prefer to stay home and watch conference on TV.... just like the ball game - you get to see replays, get a drink, sit in a lounge chair etc etc.

Wow - I'd forgotten all about the sacrament gem. Haven't heard the term for decades. Guess I must be an old dog, like yourself.

Bruce McConkie stated in 'Mormon Doctrine' that our race, nationality etc in this life was determined by our performance in the pre-existence. Bruce explained a lot of such things ; only problem is that Pres. McKay ( president at the time ) didn't want Bruce to publish that book because he disagreed with significant parts of it.I didn't discover this until after I'd used the book throughout my mi

SusieQ, you've reminded me of when my dad saw himself in a mirror just after his first temple session. His comment, " I look like the head chef. "

You and your brother are obviously intelligent thinkers and prepared to face the issues - a fairly rare breed in church circles. I've always been prepared to discuss why I left the church ; the problem is that TBMs who are confident and knowledgable enough to do this with me are way too difficult to find.

This subject heading is a little misleading - I think Archbishop Hart was referring to the principle on which the confessional is based i.e. that information revealed in the confessional shall remain confidential. Many Catholic priests feel, of course, that if info confessed is reported, people may stop confessing and the whole concept lose its significance.

There is also the point that LDS tend to shoot the messenger rather than consider the merits of the message." You know, Bro. X used to be such a spiritual, good man and now here he is spreading all of this anti stuff. It's a real shame."

At 93, I think Russell Nelson would be quaking in his boots at the thought of becoming number one.

This boy's loved ones obviously missed him and despite any religious differences we may have, I join them in a heartfelt ' Welcome Home !'. I find this heart-warming.

One thing you know about this board is that there are people here who understand how you feel. I come and go but am always attracted back by the honesty and humour found here. Like others, I have my favourite posters and often laugh out loud when I read their posts. I hope you stay for a while.

We don't know the full story so it's difficult to judge but I can't help feeling that every human deserves to have his/her life acknowledged.

Boner, I feel the same about wanting to know RFMers better.I always look for, and read, whatever you and Elderolddog have to say - and it often cracks me up. We are left to imagine what other board contributors look like, how old, what gender etc. When I first read your stuff, I imagined you as a cool young dude in his twenties..... now I find you're middle-aged with grown kids !

There are whole slabs of stuff that 'investigators' and even lifelong LDS don't know about the church. It is only when they find out some of the information we discuss on this board that they have cause to rethink their membership.

Utah, and SLC in particular, is the spiritual home of LDS everywhere. It's where the great leaders are and where the big decisions are made - and with all those LDS there, how could it be other than a wonderful place ? My personal experience, on visiting Utah, was that physically, it was as good a place as any to live, but that the good saints there seem to live in a bubble. Apart from missio

I got to wondering about Dieter Uchtdorf and the many other GA's called from overseas to live and work for the church at headquarters - do they have permanent living status or are they on limited visas that have to be renewed on a regular basis? From the outside looking in, it seems the church has few problems getting whoever they want to go live in SLC but then I'm not privy to what actually goe

Took me a while too, Don. These days, when TBM's ask "What was it that bugged you so much that you left the church?" I say something like "The answer to that question changed my life. If you REALLY want to know, and have a serious conversation about it, I'll do it but it isn't something to be idly mentioned right now." Then they can decide whether they really want to know.

Master, in my experience, most LDS don't even know about the Danites. In today's LDS church, they've probably been replaced by those who, having found the 'inactives', will love-bomb them ( ring, visit, bring cakes etc ) for a while until they (the inactives) either return or resist - those who resist will eventually be left alone. I've recently been through this.

Hey xe, the question you might ask your accuser is, " Since when has a sincere search for truth been prideful, selfish, unfeeling or ( as my TBM brother said to me ) in Satan's territory ? You know that you are sincere and if there is a God, He knows it too. Next time someone gives you a hard time, I suggest you ask the above question. You know you are sincere so relax - you're covered on al

Further to your second list, Richard, I find it interesting that the current prophet is unable to say " Thus saith the Lord " on these modern issues. At least JS did that ( D & C ) when people asked him questions.
