Sadly, The LDS church is all about sex, and control. If you haven't noticed by now, the church plants it in your brain that if you don't do sex exactly as prescribed by the church, then you are bad, evil, a sinner, satan's minion etc. The church plants the shame and guilt deep in your brain and when you mess up, you believe its the end of the world and you need to scurry back to the bishop t

Why must so many deviate from the OP and get out in the weeds on trivial differences? My belief is and I am open to discussion, but I believe these staunch faiths that treat sex like a rare commodity and then heap on mass amounts of shame and guilt if you participate in anyway outside marriage....i think that is where the harm is caused. You have a bunch of young adults with hormones raging a

Hi Mel, No I don't live in Alaska, I live in the Moridor in Utah. That is the source of my frustration and connected to this post. Utah mormon culture is pretty annoying to me. And yeah, I was surprised at how many people had a problem with the term "ladies". I am mid 40s and do not believe it is a derogatory or unsavory term. I guess it triggers some people. Who knew?

Thanks. I simply find this issue interesting. Its a very subjective subject. As for me, I've had a few women compliment me and say I'm sexy or hot from time to time and I found it flattering. I didn't consider it anything more than a spur of the moment compliment and I appreciated it very much. I only wish it happened more often! So how some people get upset or offended by it, is somethi

I'm with you..I found BOJ's assessment to be way off base. Everyone is so offended or triggered these days. Enough of the snowflakery.... Is it wrong to start a phrase, "ladies and gentlemen"? Is it wrong if i started a post that said, "Guys, help me understand XYZ"? Perhaps if I could get BOJ's personal email, i could send a rough draft of my posts over to him/her

Hey BOJ, no attitude meant. I gather you think you know me, but you don't. And, when I'm looking to hear from the ladies, women, females,(are these all derogatory terms now?), when i want to hear from them, I start my post with Ladies.... Or, would it be better if I started it with gals? or sisters? Anyway, Its my observation (and i could be wrong) that this is a Utah culture thing. I have f

I've noticed over the last 10 years with the big push of Modest is hottest by the church, that using the words "Hot" or "Sexy" in dating are apparently triggers for TBM women. Or maybe its all women??? I'm struggling to see how this is so. As a man, I am attracted to the opposite sex. I describe women as beautiful, sexy, hot, gorgeous, cute etc. I don't typically say th

The church at its core is a motivational entity. It's basically a motivational speaker like Tony Robbins. It motivates people to be better, to try harder. To try to get in tune with their inner child. Sure there are positive benefits that can come from it. But sadly, it takes every little bit of progress and gives credit only to God. Conversely, i think people have a lot of power within the

Wow, it looks like the majority of commentators here have resigned formally. I simply don't care and I don't want to take the time to bother with it. Maybe if the church starts bothering me with visits etc, then i may deem it necessary. For now, i fly under the radar.

As of right now, this post, the informal survey is at exactly 50/50 between those who formally resigned and those who did not.

Perhaps we can calculate a percentage on this forum from an informal survey. Of people who have permanently left the church, how many actually bother with officially removing records from the church? I left the church 3 years ago and have not bothered to do anything formal or official. Not sure i care to bother with it. Please comment if you have left the church and whether or not you o

Grab the popcorn, this is going to be entertaining to watch LD$ Inc. bend and sway in the wind, attempting to appease the masses from leaving.

Damage control. The church is one big PR machine. It's clearly not run by God. It's run by men who continue to amend and change the church and then tiptoe through the web of questions. Is it a policy change? Or is it doctrinal change? Is it God or men making these changes? Its kind of messy isn't it. God needs to get his act together. He keeps messing up, making the humans look bad.

Hmmmmm, who is running this corporation, er, um I mean church? Is it God or men? Kind of feels like old, white, big on tradition and slow to change men are running this church. I could be wrong though.....

I wonder what the new buzz words will be this conference. "doubt your doubts", "ponderize" are recent ones from memory. You just know there will be some new ones that the TBM masses will gush about and "heart" on social media. Wait for it....

Just a vent here. I live within the shadows of the everlasting hills (Wasatch front) and now that I am out, it grates on me as I have to interact with the TBMs that are far too giddy about the church. I mean, we are talking about as giddy as kids going to Disneyland. Its insane. Actual grown ups being giddy about conference and trying to share the beauty of conference with non members.

Lets get a discussion going...What's on tap for spring Conference this year? Surely the Lard has informed Russ of many new "revelations" er, um administrative changes that need to be implemented. I'd like to hear your predictions....

I just did a check on the global population. It is currently at 7.5 billion and the annual growth rate is 1.2%. To put that in numbers, that is 90 million people added annually. We know the church likes to tout 16 million members, but many of us know that number is not true. The true number for active members is likely under 10 million, perhaps its half of that. So just by normalized popul

Yes, i considered that it would be difficult to really calculate the total tithe numbers considering how many people directly transfer funds to LDS HQ or send a check direct to LDS HQ. Thanks for the information.

I served in the DR...the water comes on and off through the day unscheduled. You either have large bins inside the house to catch water from faucets and some collect it in tanks on the roof. Also, there is virtually no regulation there, so people will hard wire their homes to the power grid and you would see dozens of jimmy rigged wires from each block all tangled up in a web and connected to th

Since I am out of the church I now look at all the stake and ward buildings in Utah and consider them multi million dollar businesses, each and every one. Any of you men who served in bishoprics able to recall the amount of tithing a solid, high attendance Utah ward would pull in during a year? I'm sure the figures are larger than most would expect.

Pretty simple really. You're in control, they aren't. I'm sure they will say their little diatribe to try to persuade you to stay. When they finish up, just stand your ground and tell them you're done. You'll be expecting the release immediately.

That's for sure. Its pretty ingrained in the deep seated members to "doubt their doubts" in other words, don't go digging, don't go looking, don't be curious.

Hi folks. I would like to go down the path of talking to my siblings and try to have an open and honest discussion about the shady church history we all know about. However, I believe it is best for each person to take their own path, out of curiosity than to be bombarded with a bunch of gritty details that may cause them to put up defenses and see me as the bad guy. In your opinion is there a

As many of us now know most of the stories peddled from the LDS pulpit over the years are wildly embellished and fluffed up to make everyone sound like a saint, including Porter Rockwell. Near as i can tell, the guy was a hit-man, murderer and mobster for the church. Anyone care to help me on this and let me know if that is the case??? I doubt he was some righteous priesthood dude.
