Wow! He visited my mission in 1992 and did a similar thing. Luckily I wasn't in his sights. I don't remember the exact number of missionaries he sent home but it was more than 5 and one was an AP. He sent them home for forming a secret combination. It was so stupid and crazy. I thought the guy was a royal prick. Of course he will never be made to account for his behavior. The other GA t

Some random thoughts: Only a cult is so concenred and invasive about how its individual adherence's dress and groom. As a teenager my bishop would grab and twist your arm and yell at you to get a haircut. He actually injured one of my peers while twising their arm. If your bishop is truly so concerned about the dignity of the priesthood he should be looking for ways to love and build hi

Thank you for writing this. This has to be one of the most poignant and well thought out and written works I've seen on this site. I've thought a lot about a lot of things since leaving the church and have and am still trying to graple with now and later. You've given me some additional things to consider. Thank you.

Like polygamy and racicism, beer brewing is something the church seems to conveniently forget about. It brewed copious amounts of beer up until prohibition.

I'm glad he's home and ok (looking at him he definitely didn't miss any meals). KSL was calling him a hero which is an insult to all heroes. He is an idiot that did something incredibly stupid, and was lucky enough to make it through the ordeal. The State Department should revoke his passport. Morally he needs to make some kind of amends to the tax payers.

You stick a Book of Mormon in their faces and say lets pray about it now. They always scurry like mice when the light gets turned on. The BoM is good for something.

Per the Handbook of Instruction, bishops are supposed to speak about the Plan of Salvation. The church also "admonishes" to keep funeral services at an hour. It's terrible. The church makes a funeral about the church and not the individual and their life.

I haven’t prayed for 5 years now. So far I still am safe in my travels (if an accident befalls me, well accidents just happen), the food I eat is good and hasn’t made me sick, bad days are just as bad and good days just as good, but actually better than before because I’m not constantly wondering if something happened because of prayer or not. I believe for many people some type of pra

To expect a family to change its plans for its sake seems to be very arrogant. They could do it any other weekend instead.

If it was your wife’s wishes to not have it done your relative should (but probably won’t) respect that. At the same time, to argue it gives it a certain kind of legitimacy. If you don’t believe in it, don’t believe it’s of any efficacy, then why care?

I was profoundly unhappy for the first 40 years of my life. When I began to understand the church was at the core of what's wrong and I began to admit to what I had seen my whole life and left, I've found genuine happiness. I live a more authentic and honest existence.

Anyone else having to change their family's Memorial Day weekend plans because their kid's stake decided to hold seminary graduation during the holiday?

I have mixed feelings about my mission experience during and since. After 24 years I still catch myself thinking of some experiences and occasionally have dreams where I have to go back, and those are terrifying.

Per the church's official statement, "Together we invite all people, organizations, and governments to work with greater civility, eliminating prejudice of all kind". I totally agree. I went to the KSL comment board on the story, quoted the church's statement and wrote, "but what about eliminating prejudice against the LGBT community?" Surprise! The comment wasn't

I had to go back and read the quote about Dr. King's flaws. For a moment, I thought the quote had to be about Joseph Smith.

On March 30th, I went to dinner at the Roof with some friends. We left the restaurant soon after the priesthood session let out and as we were leaving Elder Andersen was in the waiting area letting people take their picture with him. A side note, it made me think of how people are at Disneyland when they want a picture with Mickey. Anyways, I wanted to simply leave but my wife walked up to h

I've been haunting this site for three years and finally registered. Maybe I'll get around to sharing my story. I finally stop denying what I knew the truth really was seven years ago but I still have days where the impact of the religious trauma creeps in. Last weeks HB330 brought up a lot of emotion. Living in Utah, everyone, even the TBMs knows there is a huge problem with the separation
