I've never been Mormon for even a fraction of a second, but I think the reason why Mormons don't celebrate Advent is because of their belief that the church went into apostasy very early on, therefore anything after that - the development of the Christian calendar, for example - is not of God/Christ/etc. Btw, I was raised United Methodist and Advent was a big deal.
