As a teen, I had issues with Mormonism. It just didn't make sense. Too many things that were just fucking ridiculous. Three Nephites? Patriarchal fortune telling? Feelings over facts? Give me a fucking break. TBMs - Do you have a brain? Never did do the PB thing. I quit going to seminary after the first year. I had better things to do. Like sleep in. Went to BYU only cause parents paid

This exact same situation happened to my 6 yo daughter. Bitten in the face, 3 gashes that required stitches. Animal control had to be notified. Take some pictures. In our case, we were not looking to sue anyone or collect any kind of insurance. The family had their dog on a chain in the back yard and my daughter walked up to it, with birthday cake. We did not fault the family at all. Ho

The "Macho Man" vid had a Lamanite in it! Did you see how white and delightsome he was getting? Who knew Lamanites could dance? I was a teenager in that era...that brought back the memories. Thanks for posting that. Now I'm gonna have that song stuck in my head for the rest of the day. At least it's better than "I Hope They Call Me on a Mission".

I had a dream once where I "knew" the lottery numbers. Don't remember how I got them, just a real strong impression that these were the numbers. I even woke up. The impression was so strong that I knew I would remember them in the morning, and so I went back to sleep. Yeah, well, in the morning I could only remember some of the numbers. The Powerball number itself (21) was vividly

Fly fishing. Fishing a small mountain river on the late summer evening as the caddis flies hatch and the trout go crazy is my idea of heaven on earth.

I was adopted too, as an infant. Don't know anything about birth parents; haven't tried to find out. I'm almost 50 now, so may not be much point to it. Yes, I am curious, though. I'm extremely grateful to my adoptive parents, who gave me a solid, middle class upbringing that stressed education and hard work. But I'm also just as pissed that they raised me in the Morg. They refuse to see

There were some signature collectors out in front of the local WalMart the other day. They were wanting to save traditional marriage. I should have asked what organization they were working for. I didn't stop or engage them, but here in central WA it is very conservative. A lot of people here would agree with them. But in this state issues are decided by the voters on the west side, wher

My wife is/was raised non-mormon. The difference between our families is enormous, all because of the elephant. Wife's family is fun, and open. It's always crazy and loud, and wouldn't you know, people say the dangdest things when they've had a few cold ones. They don't censor their speech much. My family is exactly the opposite. All you hear about is churchy stuff. I really don't give a cr

One of my few remaining friends from my Morg days is now a bishop. We recently had lunch, and homosexuality came up. He is very anti-gay, and stated that if the Mormon church ever did become ok with it, he was outa there. He said he'd have Sundays off for the rest of his life. I think you would see a lot of people leave if (when) the church mainstreams on this particular issue.

My wife wanted to see it, so we went together. There were 3 guys in the whole theater, and it was sold out. Talk about feeling out of place... Most of the comments I overheard were not about plot!

I have a couple of close friends on fire crews. They have both floated the idea that some forest fires are intentionally set for economic reasons. Fighting fires pays very well, especially for those persons contracted to firefight only when there is a fire(s). Hope everything turns out well for your family.

One of the main opponents against gay marriage has changed his mind. Will the mormon church be next? http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/47930211/ns/us_news-the_new_york_times/ Hope the link works

One of my friends got held back a year (to go on a mission) because he had sex with his girlfriend. Everyone knew...he was an "example" of what would happen... So I became a very good liar. I was not going to put myself or my family through that shame. All of my buddies must have been pretty good liars too. My friend married his girlfriend when he returned from his mission, and

Earlier in my life, I was an officer in the US Army during the first Gulf War era. Was discharged due to an injury sustained during training. Also, a bit earlier, I served in Military Intelligence as a Voice Intercepter/Linguist (98G). Can't say any more than that, but it was pretty interesting.

went to a Hagar concert in SLC. When he returned, he had "possessed" a giant concert banner, probably 12'x 18' or so. "3 Lock Box" album, a set of lips on the banner. I have a picture somewhere of that banner flying from the 3rd floor of R Hall Deseret Towers. He is now a prof. at the Lord's University. Ahh, the memories

Thanks for the kind thoughts and advice. I couldn't get her to go see the counselor, but we do have all kinds of people watching out for her. Diapason, thanks for the ideas. As I was typiing this message she came in the door and my wife actually got a few words and a smile. Breakthrough!!!! She's a senior and graduation is tonight. Keeping my fingers crossed.

2 days ago my daughter, a high school senior, witnessed her boyfriend get killed right in front of her in a pedestrian/vehicle accident. He died in her arms. This is the second boyfriend to die in a car-related accident in a little over a year. She is seriously messed up right now. I've set up a counseling appt. for her for today, but when I tried to talk to her about it last night, she say

Hey Travis! Long time no see. Hope you're doing well. We need to meet up for some beverages some time. No, I wasn't on the bus, but my daughter was. She competed at state in one event, but didn't win. However, she said Hooters was great!
