That's all by design. Learning about the changes will raise far too many troublesome questions.

Glad for them. I just loathe the word moisture now.

Speaking of this place, has anyone been there? Is it as cool as it sounds?

I lived in El Paso as a kid. My sister went back a little while ago, with her 6'6" son, and didn't even feel brave enough to get out of the car to take a picture of our old house - the neighborhood was that bad. Are some parts of El Paso still nice?

Glad we're not there. I'm a fall and winter person, with all that entails, but even I'm over it by now.

Not a lot, and it won't last, of course, but I blame the Mormons in the ward building half a block away for their infernal praying for moisture.

Same. I'm on a steep learning curve and have been for quite a while - ever since I kicked religion to the curb. It's amazing how freeing it is and how much more I can give myself permission to not only learn material I didn't feel I could or should before, but to change my mind based on actual evidence. I revel in it.

Fantastic. Think things through, go do fun things on Sunday (particularly things you might not generally do), talk to others who have different viewpoints, and clear your head any way you can. I think you'll find it very...refreshing. And enlightening.

I'll take my chances. Sometimes I do go on a bit. Let 'em head south. I can take it.

I do enjoy it, the way I work on it, but still...there are many other things I could be doing that might benefit my family even more. I'm prattling??

Interesting. To me it's just what you do (and you'll LOVE it, dammit!). I still do it, although in my own way - not the typical save-jillions-of-names-of-people-I-know-nothing-about Mormon type of way. But, maybe it really doesn't matter that much. Now you have me thinking...

Truth. We tend to veer off topic when we shouldn't, but I, sometimes don't want to read the same things once again. I'm here reading far more than I'm posting. Might be fun to have another forum for different types of discussions, but on this one, yep, we need to stay on topic. Thanks, moderators.

I absolutely love it and thrive on accessing material that changes my mind. I've swung moderate on several issues I never dreamed I would.

It's funny because I'm not actually overtly political, although I do speak out on some things. I try to approach things from a moral standpoint, though, admittedly, that is a subjective matter at best. But, life these days can be confusing and chaotic, so I'm constantly evaluating and adjusting my positions on various issues as I learn more and gain better information. It's a lifelong process

I often feel very alone. I've lost SO many friends and family. I anger my religious conservative friends and I anger my liberal godless friends. I think there are more like me out there than anyone realizes, but it's very hard to speak up and find each other.

This thread has really inspired me. I know what I eat is killing me slowly, but I'm hooked and can't imagine not eating what I do. Typical Mormon diet, or worse. I'm way too heavy, look terrible, and have health issues. I really, really have to change. Thanks for all the great info.

True most swing left, but some of us are conservative atheists. It takes courage, though, because people like me piss off people on both sides.

I read it as well, during the time when my shelf had collapsed and I was reading anything and everything I could get my hands on that fleshed out what I already knew. Great read - highly recommended.

Having an easy-going, open-minded bishop made it too easy for you. Your faith transition wasn't causing pain or confusion. Now it is, because he pushed you, as cult leaders always do (and must). So now, the real question is - how far will you be pushed, and are you now ready to begin the REAL faith transition? The one where you recognize what this church really is so you can make the break cl

Giving the bishop even that bit of info was a mistake. Hope you can still get rid of them.

Good stuff, Eric. Some of it sounds very familiar - I think I've played portions of it with various bands and orchestras. Brings back wonderful memories. I don't have sophisticated tastes, so when I do listen to music (which isn't all that often - I need silence) it's my cheesy 70's pop music, the Manhattan Transfer, the Carpenters, Home Free, BB King, and similar music. Still, I miss doing t
