Studies show that the main characteristic of long-lasting marriages is....drum roll...commitment. Not sexual compatibility, not money, not family support, not shared interests, not compromise, not negotiation, and love is way down on the list. I agree/disagree, but I'm cynical of marriage. I do think that religion should not be an issue in a marriage. Maybe people think religion is in

Some of us were lusted into hasty, virginal temple marriages, which damaged our lives. So, NOT thank you.

This is hilarious! It's digital, so that changes, deletions, and additions can be made as rapidly as Rusty's lighted pen blinks on and off. "Its content will be updated regularly, giving it the requisite flexibility to help thousands of leaders around the world adapt the Church’s various programs, policies and procedures to their circumstances with loving, pastoral care." Who would you go to for ideas about God and religion? Someone like Rusty Nelson or The Pope, whose existence and fortune depends on what he tells you?

I equate God with the Laws of Nature, too. I like to personify, or "diefy" the laws of nature, because it's comforting to me. Nature, people, and our world becomes more relatable to me. It brings us all together, with one "father" or Creator. We all are born on this earth, we all die on this earth, we are all created out of the elements of this earth, which is our home.

The Mormons in my life act like a majority group, who gang up on me, in numbers--know what I mean? They are loud and aggressive, besides. They are "like the Armies of Helaman", and can be very intiimidating to a forest critter, like me. I feel I have people on "my side" now. All of you have given me a great deal of validation, today. I am overwhelmed by the kindness an

"Jesus wept" John 11:35. In Primary, we had to memorize a Bible verse of our chooice. My friend chose this verse. I am so sorry that you lovely people have had to endure the same type of mistreatment from Mormon family members. It does help to know that this is common, and that I'm not being paranoid or overly sensitive. Still--I wish there were no such thing as narcissists.

Your post cheered me up, cl2. It also helped me put things in perspective. That's right--your daughter married a Mormon in your neighborhood, too. I'm glad this has worked out for you! You are very nice, and friendly, and genuine, so you deserve some of the credit, that they like you so much. My daughter's Mormon MIL has an image of Mormon perfetion that no one can live up to. My SIL is

Oh thank you, Kathleen! I needed that. The harder I try, the more I feel like a failure. If the desired outcome is not possible, maybe I need to stop stressing about Mormons who don’t like me. LOL—it is refreshing to have someone call them “imbeciles”.

Is it possible to have Mormons stop shunning me? Is there something I can do? I mean, there has been a growing chasm between me and my Mormon daughter, her TBM husband, and their children. Their disrespect of me has been fueled by my daughter's TBM in-laws, who are among the Mormon neighbors who have been shunning me, ever since I resigned 10 years ago. I left quietly. I've always lived the

I have to butt-in again, and add that I really appreciate people's advice, and like to consider other points of view, new ways of doing things. There is always something to learn from others! It's nice to know that people CARE.

I thought Reggie was resurrected, for a moment! And some posters from the past had returned for a reunion. I was disappointed to see that this thread was from 2011. What? Interesting to see a conversation carried on between people from the Year 2011, and people from the year 2020, as though 9 years had never passed. Rebeccah 2020 even joined in with Rebeccah 2011, and there were two Cl

Variety? You were in the wrong church. My favorite hobby to do by myself, is reading. I can get lost in a good book, and temporariy forget about the world and its problems. I often stay awake way too late, because I get caught up in reading. I couldn't imagine reading the same few books over and over again. I read the BOM 7 times! Those were among the most boring, depressing hours of m

Hello, Fidget! It's good to hear from you. I remember you. Sorry about the loss of your loved ones. I lost my grandparents, all at once, like you did. It was because they were all close to the same age, and it was their time. Your dad died too young. You will probably miss your loved ones forever and will think about them every day. The good news is that the love lives on, and the happy m

How old is your mother, Messygoop? I know of a 76-year-old widow and an 83-year-oldwidow who clean their ward house! They consider it an "exercise in humility." I know an older widow who was called To England on a special "work mission" to clean the mission president's house there, and she bragged about it, as thought it was an honor! She even had a ward home-coming, l

"Should old acquaintance be forgot...." "The best laid schemes of mice and men...." "My Love is like a red-red rose...." I have some Scottish in me, too, through Canadian Mormon relatives, in Southern Alberta. Enjoy your wee dram. I'm swigging hot mulled cider, after being out playing in the snow all day. Her words must be taken as prophesy--who would doubt words written in such flowery "pseudoKingJames"? Srsly, I have archived a few wise quotes from PTBarnum. I'm surprised she's not a man--the name fooled me--so she couldn't be a prophet, after all. Still, following PTBarnum, would be far better than following the creep who wrote D&C 132. I did everything "right&q

I don't do any of those things, either. My lifestyle has changed very litte, since leaving the cult--but my life has changed completely! There's a myriad of options available, out there in the world! I have more time and money to do them! I'm still nice to the Mormons who shun me, because that's who I am, and I value family and friendships. I do wonder, though: How do you get Mormons to

Does child molestation and physical assaults come under the heading of ""Regimentation/Nazi-Mos"? That's what made me make that split-second decision to officially resign, burn the bridges, and never go back. I wonder how many other people find out about the lies and "little fleks of history", one after another, yet remain in the cult for social reasons, because of

We were taught eternal progression in seminary. Yes, the Mormons DID teach that "As man is, God once was; and is God is, man might become." Jesus was still progressing. He just had to grow up and stop flooding and killing everyone. Turning the other cheed is more mature. I guess God has "regressions" now and then, like most of us do. How can Mormons know so much abou

These are good responses. I agree that you don't need to tell them anything. Here's why. You want to leave on YOUR TERMS. The Mormon cult makes itself way more important than it should be. It assumes way more authority and control over you than it should. You can put religion in perspective, by treating it like it isn't important. It is not necessary for you to explain or make excuses, o
