Smart people can (and often do) abandon logic when it conflicts with their irrational beliefs.

Many TBMs said it strengthened their testimonies when ETB became (comparatively) restrained when he became “prophet.” They believed that the mantle of the calling transformed him. I just think he got too old to be so radical.

The notion that Joseph Smith never told a lie is far more plausible than the moon landing was fake.

They count dead people, I’m sure they count resigned and excommunicated “members.”

The human body is a crappy canvas for drawing pictures. I think about 95% of the tattoos I’ve seen are butt ugly. The other 5% are....meh. It’s also important to remember that (unlike the eternal gospel) tattoos are forever.

Invading Iraq is against my religious beliefs. I must be due nearly 30 years of tax refunds.

There is an amazing similarity that is true for all end-of-world predictions: they’re always wrong.

Maybe I’m connecting dots that shouldn’t be connected, but it seems to me that there may be connection between TSCC’s new sensitivity in reporting church units that are dissolved or combined with the new combination of the EQ and HP group. It seems (at least anecdotally) that many LDS wards and branches are suffering because they don’t have enough active members to staff all of the pos

I liked Fleetwood Mac before Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks joined, not so much after. I suppose I just proved how old I am.

TBMs will see either of those as “historic,” but from my perspective: A person of color being an apostle: I’d replace “historic” with “long, long overdue.” Sustaining a new “prophet”: those guys are so old, replacements are too frequent to be historic.

1938. GC rumors
Over the past few days, I’ve heard a few TBMs say some similar things about GC. The stories usually begin with “visiting general authorities at my stake conference told our stake presidency that there will be things announced at conference that will shake testimonies,” or “President Oaks said that this conference will be historic,” or “pay close attention to the Saturday afternoon ses

The Lord’s anointed will reveal his will to those who have chosen to follow the one true church. Either that, or there will be two days full of a boring rehash of tired old topics.

Yes, the Polynesian Cultural Center is a for-profit enterprise, but it also serves an important missionary function. It helps potential converts learn about an important group of Lamanites. SWK said: “You Polynesians of the Pacific are called Samoan or Maori, Tahitian or Hawaiian, according to your islands. There are probably sixty million of you on the two continents and on the Pacific Isla

It’s OK to discriminate if they’re not being paid, right? I mean, they can’t be denied raises because of their gender./s Even young sister missionaries are treated like crap. They are below district leaders, zone leaders, and assistants to the president, all of whom are likely younger than them, just because they lack the divine penis, I mean priesthood.

Throughout my life, people have told me about amazing, overwhelming feelings they have experienced through religion. I remember a woman telling me about a vision quest to get in touch with her Native American roots. It was more impressive than any Mormon testimony or Christian “born again” story I’ve ever heard. I remember someone else telling me about accepting Allah as the one true god an

I’d like to go back to my mission (for a very short time—I couldn’t stomach it for long). I’d say “this picture in my flip chart isn’t a historically accurate depiction. Actually, the golden plates weren’t used at all. Joseph put a rock in a hat and ‘translated’ the Book of Mormon.” I wonder how quickly I’d be sent home (dishonorably) from my mission.
