Lots of people have convinced themselves that what they do is commanded by some deity or another. I know plenty of Muslims and they are no better or different from you. Some are urbane, some are provincial, some are religious in name only, some are devout and some aren't at all. Being a Muslim doesn't make you a terrorist anymore than being Christian or Jewish or Buddhist or a pagan does.
