That's okay. Maybe it just needed to be said.

I liked that sense of community - in SOME ways - so I miss that SOMEtimes. I MUCH prefer not being tethered to any community 24/7, however. Though I enjoyed the ward of my pre-college years, I had no close friends in my last ward. I only moved into it after college, there were basically no young adults in it, and I was already beginning my journey out of the church. Knowing what I know now,

True, there is no entitlement, but it IS DEFINITELY traditional in our culture, so much so, that denying your estate to your family or anyone in it is seen very negatively toward either the deceased or the family member.

I thought you were setting up a joke. "a former Catholic, a former Seventh-Day Adventist, a former Presbyterian and a former Mormon met at a campground . . ."

What you read into farside's post reminds me of what Mormons read into NHM.

That is so tragic. I'm very sorry. Sadly, since she sounds very resentful combined with having no job history, I fear that if she really intends to go through with it, you'd better get prepared. I'm sure you know that. Change in religion is a big adjustment. Any chance she'd be willing to TRY to work through that adjustment with marriage counseling?

Congratulations on believing in yourself and trusting your ability to decide for yourself what you believe and don't. Mormonism, like several other religions, makes it very difficult to leave, so I feel for you. Others here will be able to relate totally as there are quite a few who have been in the same situation. Once you know that the LDS teachings are not true, there's really no turnin

One of my relatives quit cold turkey when he joined the church and never smoked again, but he wasn't a heavy smoker to start with. Still, that's pretty good. It would be a shame for him to start a new bad habit in its place, however. LDS church membership,

A young kid, having never experienced the effects of drinking alcohol, would only know at most that it tastes really awful. He wouldn't have known from experience how it could dull the pain.

Focus on the positive things that you DO believe in when talking about leaving the church. Like instead of saying "I've lost my faith in the church", perhaps think of it more like "I have found that my beliefs are very different from what the LDS church teaches." You aren't weak or broken or deficient, and it isn't so much that you have LOST anything, or that YOU LACK so

So now that the secrets are all OUT THERE available to the public on the Internet, it seems like a lot of its "special-ness" would be lost. To me, one of the WEIRDEST things is that everyone gets the same name on any given day. Won't that cause confusion in the next life. You call out your wife's name and 3500 women reach out? They should totally revamp that with modern technolo

Instead of proselyting, they should just send attractive uber TBM members of all ages on missions to the branches or wards with declining membership to help boost attendance. Sort of like having a living commercial. They should ALLOW and even ENCOURAGE the young men or women mishies to date and marry right there in the area to boost and solidify its LDS population.

What! The LDS church is not able to impress its UK members into service anymore? Are UK members tithing without representation? Is the UK church declaring its independence? So what's next? Are they going to toss their temple garments into the harbor?

I was thinking that even if there was a church leader who WANTED to come clean and put the church back into a more church-like financial state, HOW could he do it? There can NEVER be any admission of wrong-doing or mismanagement as that would imply that the previous leaders were not divinely directed.

Aha! I found the reason. In an article back in the 90's, it says. "Officials of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints refuse to disclose information about real-estate holdings, even to members, saying such information would distract from the church's ecclesiastical mission." So they just don't want to DISTRACT the members. You see, there's a PERFECTLY GOOD REASON. Yea

It's all just so weird to see a church investing so much into real estate! But it's all totally okay . . . because they opened it with a prayer.

I agree they should have called 911 immediately, but I can't blame them exactly for trying to stop it themselves. I can't help but think that the police would have had to shoot him dead if they had gotten there first. Actually, it was VERY LUCKY that they were able to stop him. It really could have ended very differently.

I will not doubt myself when my belief conflicts with LDS teachings, but will trust in my ability to make decisions based on study and my own sense of right and wrong

I mainly remember that I had to get up at 5:30 to get ready for Seminary - and I hated getting up so early. But anyway, it was just something else I had to do and I always did what I was told. That was that. The class was okay. One of the really nice men in the ward taught it and he did a nice job. The only thing I remember specifically, though, is scripture chases. We were all pre

I really don't think that's the best place to try to effect change, because FIRST: They need to be OPEN to receiving new information. They need to TRUST the source of that information. They need to feel SAFE when receiving that information. Why should the phone rep believe anything you say? He's going to automatically be distrustful of you. Also, he KNOWS that everything he types is being
