read my response below,. they are caught with their pants down in the middle of the transition to mainstream. But yes, they will step off the BOm and POGP (this has begun already). They have also begun to back off the prophet is infallible position.

They are a hybrid. They began as a cult that survived their founder's self-destruction. The cult torch was carried for quite a wile until they goverment had them face financial doom, at that point the church took the turn that eventually led them to the infallible doctrine, the Corporation, and their never ending attempt to jump into mainstream protestantism. However some of their cult belief

Koresh’s Branch Davidians. Jim Jones’ Peoples Temple. Manson’s Family. Applewhite’s Heaven’s gate. Moon’s Unification Church. Warren’s FLDS. The list goes on and on and on. Why do cults self-destruct? Why do some religions go on for millennia and some bite the dust or turn into cults and implode? The answer, I feel, is that whenever a religion separates from the fringes

The reason God has forbidden the creation of graven images to worship him was to prevent the dumbing down of religion to the point where the image is worshiped more that God himself. It appears as a silly notion, but when you think about old religions, they slowly decay to the point that they worship their tradition and “graven” images more than the dogma and they begin to get far away from

We get it. But when you are appealing to the masses you cant come across cynical, hypocritical or overly complicated (this is the reason political bumper stickers and slogan have so much power). Im not saying that she is any of those things, but she comes across that way to "some" people. Applying for a decision from the priesthood and then, when it does not go your way, you

Moral relativism... Uncle Dallie, tell us more about polygamy being illegal...tell us why marrying udergage girls is ok sometimes...or why you making mistakes does not rise to the level of being a false prophet....

I was for 3 months. I asked to be released when the new MP came in. I was punished by the new MP for asking he took offense. He was a clown. I am NO relation to any GA, made out with the then prophet's granddaughter if that counts.

One of the most attractive and fundamental teachings in mormon doctrine is superiority to others. The racials aspect of it has always been a part of it. It has been painted over many times. From "God has told me" to "we don't know why God chose this" to "we never taught it, but it does not matter now". It is still there. Mormonism engenders those superior feeli

People are in love with being in love with the church. The car lot wisdom has them enthralled as long as they get their catchphrases, they get to be better than other people and they get told they are going to heaven.

I think that their ultimate doctrine that dominates all others is this: How will it benefit the church? Other than that ANY doctrine is on the chopping block. I do wonder how actually instructing people how to handle the cognitive dissidence (with added guilt) will pan out for them.

They don't care wither way. Its just about controlling people's needs so they can drive the conversation as to what to wear, who to marry , where to touch, etc, etc. Of they REALLY cared about purity or your soul, they would make sure they persecuted abusive leaders and pedophiles instead of hiding them. Thy would conden the practice of child weddings and polyandry in their past and now. T

Lori C, wisely pointed out Holland’s new approach to Mormon doctrine. I have also heard this from Uchdorf and from Bednar. Oaks, Packer and some of the others hold on to the “there is no discrepancy here, you are just stupid” movement. This is the old doctrine: All truth can be circumscribed in to a great whole. Things are either all true and good (from God),or, they are from the Devil (

Lately I have seen a bit of crossfire between some foaming-at-the-mouth atheists and other posters. I laugh at humans that claim that they know how everything works from their limited perspective of what they have proven not to work. It’s like falling out with Mormonism and reading a book and a couple of websites makes them KNOW everything about the universe, prove every theory and no differ

there is a clarification to be made when people say this: So there are mutiple and opposing truths?...becuase you are confusing personal beliefs with truth, truth is unmovable, factual, unafraid, willing to explain itself, what you are saying is the oppisite. In your statment, the muslim faith is the true church, so is scientology....But unfortunayrely finding purpose and direction from a c

I had a conversation with a TBM friend recently. The conversation took the expected turn toward the testimony corner. His thought-ending platitude was this: It’s true, no matter what. I laughed and restated his position (and added to it here): It’s true, if you change history. It’s true if you ignore the timeline. The DNA It’s true, if you ignore Native American culture.

I teach a class about alternative treatments and the placebo effect. 1) Some poeple will get better on their own, even from pretty serous conditions. Our minds work in a linear way, so if the last thing you did was drink orange soda before your flu went away, then orange soda cures the flu. When something out ofthe ordinary happens in health care we try to find a reason and a purpose, when in

The lord will never change his policies for anybody, ever. They are eternal and everlasting. What would be the purpose of giving us commandments and doctrines if we chaged them to suit us? He is an unchanging god, except for every time the chuch gets bad pr.

True story. Came from my GF father a devout mormon who is a contemporary of TSM. He attends a ward in Farmington. It was announced in sacrament meeting. I guess he is after all, the prophet, since Joseph Smith could not get out of bed either.

The concept of Santa may make some children behave, it may help some parents' lives easier. That's fine. If being a lazy parent or a having ignorant children is your thing. But no matter how much you love the concept, how many cookies you put out, no matter all the music, the heartfelt stories or decorations, Santa is not real. Believing it, defending it, hoping with all of your heart does not

I dated a Benson girl. Of course, she got accepted there with a 17 ACT. She in fact got a scholarship...and grants. She, like her entire brood was making 1-3K a month to go to BYU. So yes, they are not a great university. Sure as with anywhere you go, you will get people who had different experiences. But when you look at the core you find that BYU is not a great as they pretend to be. My

They church has a PROGRAM to get old people to sign everything to the lord. Thry seel it as the best blressing and example that you can leave your kids. My suggestion, go get an affidavit declaring them incapable of signing legal documents, get the person handling the will to keep that power of attorney and have the staff put up a sign inside or outside their room asking for no religious visits.

You dont know the culture in Tally. They expect a "natty", every year. Sure jimbo won last year, but this year it looked like he was losing the reigns with Winston, who went from jesus to rick james in 12 months. The team was not "in shambles". Jimbo was there for years, recuting and building knowing he was going to take over. The FACT is that they not only lost, bu
