What tin foil? I'm raising questions and speculating (something that we all do on this board). It's not just a broken link. There was an interesting story about us (the ex-Mormon online community) that was retracted, and I'm curious to know why. An online editor doesn't just bury a story that's just starting to pick up steam. Press freedom abuse isn't limited to state actors. An army of corpor

Here's the author of the possibly retracted article - Marissa Wenzke. Young women. Perhaps doesn't want to potentially tarnish her budding career by pissing off a powerful organization. If true, this would be quite the abuse against press freedom. https://www.linkedin.com/in/marissa-wenzke-87b04930 https://twitter.com/wenskayy http://www.pacbiztimes.com/author/marissa-wenzke/ http:

**This article appeared in my RSS reader. How the ex-Mormon community is blowing up online Mashable! by Marissa Wenzke Yesterday The hidden depths of the Web can offer a disguise, a cloak of anonymity. And the ex-Mormon community is no different. Many have gathered in a place where names aren't mentioned and personal backgrounds and histories are kept in the dark. There are 33,000

Differences between mainstream Christian heaven and Mormon CK aside, the concept of heaven is still pretty awful. http://www.alternet.org/10-reasons-christian-heaven-would-actually-be-hell

Adam and Eve existed. However, the only "fall" they experienced was likely tripping over Savanna shrubbery while hunting gazelle. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitochondrial_Eve https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Y-chromosomal_Adam

I'm confused. Is "consensual cohabitation" currently legal or illegal in Utah based on the latest court rulings?

http://www.artofmanliness.com/2016/08/08/is-christianity-an-inherently-feminine-religion/ I normally read this site for grooming, workout, and relationship advice. Looks like they're not above a bit of comparative philosophy. Interesting read (though I completely disagree with the idea that masculinity is a universal cultural norm). "It’s for this reason that some philosophers, most

Most likely, but not a ring. Today's high-class prostitution happens primarily via websites like Seeking Arrangement. You won't see a mug shot because there are no arrests. It's too difficult to prove in court that sex was the primary commodity exchanged and not a sugar daddy wanting to help girl buy text books. Contrast that to the street prostitute who not only needs to worry about her pimp

Does anyone have any idea when the next chapter will come out? This presentation was by far the most eye-opening I've ever read on the subject of BoM authorship. I periodically check the site, but it feels it's been well over a year since they published a chapter. I hope it's still an active project.

"Er ist wieder da" is such a brilliant novel and movie. Here are some memorable clips - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AtW1Lq5c04E What made this movie so good is that the right-wing Germans didn't realize that they were being mocked (much like the homophobes in "Bruno"). I bet many Mormon would be fooled the same if someone in Brigham Young attire went around Utah conduct

I do believe that racism plays a role. The poor Hispanic converts usually assimilate well from what I've seen. Despite having different economic upbringings, they have a shared cultural connection with the other members of their Spanish-speaking wards. Not the case with an urban black kid trying to mesh with youth from the suburbs of SLC.

Can't say I've ever seen this. I'd think that the family ward would be far more isolating. In addition to being an older crowd more set in their traditional beliefs, being surrounded by married couples and their kids I'd imagine would be a constant reminder of how you've "failed" in life.

Related to an earlier post - http://exmormon.org/phorum/read.php?2,1849369. I'm still on the mailing lists, despite having both been "aged out" via marriage and later having gone inactive. I just received an email that a recent convert was removed from the YSA mailing list. The Bishop has gone as far as to warn Members that any communication between said convert and the rest of the W

From the looks of things, he hoped to build one right in her backyard, in rural Vermont."

Despite going inactive, I'm still close friends with several active members, and I'm still on all the mailing list. I occasionally attend non-Church sponsored events like getting ice cream or watching a sports game (and depending on which member is present, we'll even share a round of beers!). Whenever there's an announcement of an upcoming baptism, I typically engage in some mild FB stalking.

I just watched the gripping documentary "Under the Sun" by Russian filmmaker Vitaly Mansky. The film tracks the events in the life of 8-year-old Zin-Mi and her upper-middle-class Pyongyang family both leading up to and immediately following her joining the DPRK Children's Union, an organization similar to the Soviet Union's Young Pioneers. The parallels are striking. You see a large

It's been eight months since I last attended church. Life is good. My nevermo wife and I are expecting a little girl in September. We've managed to maintain a good (though definitely not perfect) relationship with our close ward friends. The superficial friends are quickly fading from memory and we frankly don't miss them. I understand myself better today. I know why I was drawn to active m

Archaeologists think the bodies landed or were dumped in shallow ponds, where the motion of the water mixed up bones

I've seen several baptisms where the girlfriend/boyfriend of the dunkee was in attendance. I'm pretty sure that many were living together. I moved in with my wife before we were legally married. Bishop didn't say anything. Remained a member in good standing until going inactive several months back. That said, I live in a liberal, urban area that isn't growing and lacks sufficient PH holders

I convinced myself that it was honorable to tithe as I was helping to build up the world's most perfect organization. I thought to myself "the government steals SO MUCH more from me to finance wars and line the pockets of corporations and politicians under the threat of prison." Took a while to connect the dots that I was simply lining the pockets of another corporation and "pol

Just completed and e-filed my returns. This will be the last tax form that will include a line item for 'THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIS' (because that's the max length in the Schedule A / Gifts by Cash or Check). Quite a milestone. While I love reducing my effective tax rate, there is a (very, very) small guilt that comes from deducting an expenditure that I freely chose to give because it had brou
