All we're really doing here is sharing what we believe, and our opinions. I am not going to debate my beliefs, and not trying to get dragged into a debate over my opinions versus yours. What I believe I don't need scientific or empirical evidence for. For me, I've had my uncertainties answered by having answers to some of my prayers. Not all of them, but enough to know that someone out th

It was a tragic loss for all who knew him, including the world of entertainment. He touched a lot of lives. Seemed like a nice enough sort. The driver was going way over the speed limit when they crashed. Like 100 mph in a 30 mph zone. Neither had been drinking or under the influence. Did the driver have a death wish?

Atheists make up only 2% of the world's population. That means the rest of the world believes in some form of religion, maybe even no religion without being atheists. From wiki, here's the breakdown: The World Factbook gives the population as 7,095,217,980 (July 2013 est.) and the distribution of religions as Christian 31.50% (of which Roman Catholic 16.85%, Protestant 6.15%, Orthodox 3.96%

Religion besides being a coping and survival mechanism, is necessary for human mammals because it provides something else: inspiration, faith, and hope. These are necessary for the human species to not only survive, but thrive. With faith in something, (and not just science, because that isn't absolute - it is also changing and evolving as more knowledge becomes available.) But in somethi

The church stole my oldest child through the LDS adoption program. They seal the records, and erase the birth family. I wasn't told that when he was born. I understood it was a closed adoption,, but only learned years later they literally make the birth family disappear. When I found my biological son on his 30th birthday, he didn't even have a medical history for his bio family. And then

I hadn't noticed that lol. There were quite a few fashionistas where I've attended LDS wards, in the past. The most conservative Mormon communities I lived were in Idaho, where I grew up. There it was common to see young girls wearing sacks, provided by their mothers, and modesty was overstated. I saw an older woman at one ward that showed cleavage, which was unheard of for that area.

That's right, he did. Was either disfellowshipped or excommunicated over that. He must've felt so disgraced and so much shame for having committed adultery while he was taping his weekly tabernacle "Spoken Word." I felt bad for him at the time, because he was otherwise a humble, soft-spoken man. I actually looked forward to his taped Sunday morning radio program, when I was

I used to believe it was necessary to forgive others when they wronged me. Now I do sometimes, and sometimes I don't. It depends on the situation and the person. If they have no remorse, or what they did was unpardonable, then I don't feel as prone to forgiving them as I once did. When trust and respect for someone is gone, just forgiveness alone isn't enough to mend fences. That person h

It's a lie and a deception. It shouldn't be allowed to continue. Only if enough people do something to make it a pronouncement, it will continue. Only the Jews have been "honored" by having their names removed thus far. Why should you or I have to be Jewish to be shown this same respect?

I see it as more of a migraine than debating unicorns. What the church is doing is just wrong and unethical. Not that that's anything new. But we opted out! We should be able to stay out, even in death. It is tantamount to desecrating graves IMO. It's just disrespectful of others beliefs, religion, and values.

I feel the same way and not an atheist. It's a matter of being respectful to the deceased, and their wishes. What the church is doing is on a mass scale. That's why it may be necessary to bring a class action lawsuit. It's lawsuits that stop churches like corporations, in their tracks. If they get fined big enough.

Let's hope by fixing the house up so well, they'll sell it at a good asking price, which will drive up the price of your home too. That could be a win-win once they get off the property.

Thanks Alpiner and frackenmess for your feedback. It is a waste of time, but annoying as heck. The emotional harm isn't to me either, but to the memory of the life I led, and my intentional removal from church records. It's a matter of letting the dead rest in peace, and respecting our wishes. PR may well be better than the courts. Or a combination of the two. Perhaps if the c

Good idea. I may do that since I need to do my will anyway. It would be a good time to make sure that's in there.

After practicing Jewish holiday traditions with mates from synagogue, I've pretty much stopped observing Easter and Christmas, except for in my heart. It was such a stressor when my children were growing up; that as much joy as it brought my family to observe the traditional holidays, it was also relieving not to have to after they were grown and on their own. Neither practices Christiani

My neighbor's house blew up one night. It sounded like the 4th of July. Her oxygen tank caught on fire, and her house was gone in under ten minutes. It was 2:30 in the morning. She didn't do it to annoy her neighbors. It was probably from a careless cigarette too close to the tank. We were just glad she got out alive. The fire department told us if the tanks in her living room had gone

I have nieces and nephews that will carry on the work of my siblings when we're gone. So they know that I'm out. As are my children. My children could probably care less as well. But it still matters to me. See, I'll probably be buried next to some LDS family when I die. My tombstone will be next to theirs. I've thought of adding a Star of David to mine lol. But then there will probab

You'd think if enough people did that, that in time if it were established said LDS church violated multiple said orders of various deceased, the loved ones survivors could bring about a class action lawsuit that would trounce the church for capricious and willful violation of many existing court orders. Just a happy thought as another Easter Sunday winds itself to a close. ;)

Thank you for sharing. It may be just what I need to include with a last will and testament. At least I'll be addressing it formally. Hopefully, whoever I leave as executor will monitor that for me.

This is a lovely thought. I hope to see my loved ones again when I cross over. But I doubt very much it will be a Mormon heaven. As I've said before, if it truly is a "Mormon heaven," then there'd be no need for baptisms here, or proselytizing. I also figured on that pretense, if heaven is as patently absurd as existing in a Mormon's idea of paradisical glory, then we'd

You'd think that an order on file in SLC would be good for anywhere the church tentacles reach. That would seem like grounds for a lawsuit, on the other hand. If someone can show it defies court orders by scoffing at one jurisprudence to baptize elsewhere in proxy. Just absurd. I do hope the Mormon.dom is on its way down, down, down.

Currently, the agreement between Israel and the Mormon church is it cannot baptize Holocaust victims, or other Jewish names, unless they're immediate ancestors of the Mormon line. My LDS family tree through familysearch.org has removed all my Jewish ancestors names from its tree because of that litigation by offended Jews of Israel several years ago. But my name isn't in that group, as my
