I was able to get on lds.org and log into my account. It has a section on there that has all my tithing donations since 2007. I stopped paying almost two years ago, but it was enough to make my stomach churn, around $14,000. Luckily I was a poor newly wed/college kid for most of my married years, so I didnt pay THAT much.

I dont think anything much other than a media story here and there will come from it. The average computer user would have no idea how to access this data, its not easy unless you have some know how. You cant just Google it and expect to find it. In fact, you cant even have a regular web browser. Once you have the data, its not just in a nice spreadsheet either. It may be out there, but

I would guess he is referencing Revelation chapter 11, it talks about two witnesses prophesying for 1260 days and then being killed in the streets, their bodies will lie in the streets for 3.5 days and then will be brought back to life and ascend into heaven. First off, this does not indicate they will be modern prophets, many early Christians believed this may be Enoch and Elijah since they

Probably depends on the family, but at my brothers wedding, one of his new brother-in-laws GF wore a sleeveless dress. As far as I know, no one said anything to her. I say dont let the church control what you would or would not wear, if you want to wear a sleeveless dress, go for it.

I enjoyed my mission and I went to Cleveland and grew up in an excellent home. I think for me though, it was something at the time I genuinely wanted to do so I enjoyed it for the most part. There were things I didnt care for it such as walking around in sub zero temperatures with a -20 windchill on some days. If I had to go out and do it now, I would hate every second of it though.

Steve I love your stories. These are the type if things that are intresting to me learning about. How these men interacted with their families. I didn't really know ETB as I was a smal kid, I don't ever recall him being in GC even, but its great to get an insight into things like this!

I havent resigned but have gone informally inactive since the beginning of the year, other than some missionaries that my wife invited over, I have had no contact. I never really brought in that much tithing, so maybe thats why. I am not complaining though. I read all the stories about people getting bothered and shunned and such and it seems weird to me, maybe its just the ward I happen to l

Funny that this is brought up today, I was at the train station today waiting to go to work and this guy starts yelling, talking to no one in particular. He says, "in the last 2000 years there have been two prophets, Muhammad and Joseph Smith. Muhammad had relations with a girl at 11 years old, then JS comes along and has relations with an 11 year old girl." Someone shouted at him t

Why did the majority of the saints at the time follow BY? What is the real story? I had always heard that when they were debating the crowd saw and heard JS when BY got up, but I believe this turned out to be nothing more than folklore. What did Young offer that Strang or Rigdon didnt?

Another very important scripture Genesis 38:9 And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother. Personally, I like the NET version of this one as it helps children understand what really is going on. But Onan knew that the child would not be consid

As someone that has gone through a couple of tragic events, watching two of my family members clinging to life in a hospital bed, one of which wasn't even a year old, these are the things that caused me to question god in the first place. What a terrible thing to say from your mom, she has no idea.

Im sorry that you are going through this. There are several couples out there that can raise a family just fine with one person believing in the church and the other not. It sounds to me that this isnt the root of the problem, there is something deeper. My best advice is to have an honest talk with him. Right now doesnt seem like the best time for the two of you to start a family and have kids.

Why not throw some Exodus in there as well, you know, for context. Exodus 4:25 Then Zipporah took a sharp stone, and cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast it at his feet, and said, Surely a bloody husband art thou to me.

I have been thinking about resigning more to make a statement to my family, but at the same time I love the idea of doing it with my wife someday. She is far from that point, but I would like to think that perhaps one day..... possibly.....

Great story! I loved it and wish I could organize my thoughts as well as you do. I like how you said at the end "He doesn't want to be viewed as stupid, naïve, or brainwashed any more than I want to be viewed as evil, rebellious, or deceived." I feel the same way about me and my wife, sometimes I feel she views me as a wounded animal and treats me as such at times. There were a few thi

I believe I had heard about the bombing from a seminary teacher, but looking back at my seminary years, those guys will say almost anything. Thanks for the details on it though, for some reason I always thought it had happened later than that and didnt really know any of the details. The dad didnt seem like a TBM, his wife was sporting some shoulder porn and the kids mistakenly called the cha

I was on the train today going to lunch and I heard a dad talking to his son as we passed TS. He was talking about the Angel Moroni and that it was bronze but leafed with gold. He said its not the original one that used to be up there because someone tried to steal it. He went into more detail that they got a helicopter and tried to detach it but they were successful and that this happened about

Maybe it would be difficult with small kids, but perhaps look into getting a part time job. Something that can get you away from the house and interact with other people. Best of luck to you, its a rocky road, but its one well worth taking.

Maybe I am completely missing what you are saying, but isnt it just as plausible that those headings were added after what was written? The 90 day thing was a claim, there is no evidence or proof that it was written that quickly.

I agree that its just made up, but not to my wife. Its very real to her and it complicates things if I just up and leave TSCC. Really, Im just a MINO.

I was wondering the same thing. If my wife ever gets disappointed that she cant have me in heaven I will assure her that she can be sealed to BY or Jesus. Why wouldn't she want one of them for a husband since she holds them to such a high esteem?

What happens when someone resigns in regards to their marriage sealing to their spouse but the spouse stays in the church? In my case, if I were to resign, would my sealing to my wife be nulled according to TSCC?

I was reading a quick tidbit about JS failed prophecies and there was one that i had forgotten about when I was a TBM. For some reason at the time it didnt really bother me, I guess I was in deeper than I thought! The one in question is D&C 84:5, it talks about the temple in Missouri being built before the whole generation passes away. Considering that revelation was given in 1832, even if

You sound like you are in a similar situation as myself not to long ago. As you grow more and more distant from the church, your wife will try harder to bring you back. I eventually came clean to my wife and told her thr I could no longer pretend for my sake or hers. It want fair to either of us. You sound like you are exactly where I was only about a year ago. I wish you the best.
