The last time I got asked to say a prayer, by my brother for my father's funeral, I said, "I don't think you want an atheist saying the prayer." And that was that. He was very much afraid of what I might say.

It's nothing more than personal good feelings, I guess. From a rational point of view, it's just their emotional endorphins running wild. We all like to feel good and we all find different ways of doing that.

Over dinner one evening, I meant to say to my wife, "Please pass the salt." Instead I blurted out, "This fucking church is ruining our lives!" She agreed. So we left.

I've always said the collective IQ of the Mormon Church is in a death spiral. Intelligent people either leave, or hang on for family sake and help other family members see the truth so that the next generation won't be caught up in it in the first place, while church growth comes mainly from uneducated third world countries. A country allowing LDS missionaries in to proselyte is an effective

When my wife and I got married, she hadn't been a member for a year, so we weren't allowed to be married in the temple. Whew! What a blessing THAT was. I baptized my wife, which was the biggest damn mistake I ever made. So we played the game, but we always kept getting put off from getting married in the temple. They made us take lessons which we did more than once (at least twice), but the

Joseph Smith' great-great-grandfather Samuel Smith was involved in the Salem witch trials of 1692. His testimony led to the hanging of two women. I know, it was the belief of the time. Beliefs make people do really stupid things. And it's the beliefs of Mormons today that make them do really stupid things. But they just don't get it. Here are some excerpts taken from a couple of things

That's a great story. When I would get a phone call asking me to do something, I'd just say, "No," then listen to the dead silence on the other end. They always expect an excuse. I didn't owe them an excuse. The fact that I didn't want to do it was excuse enough. So after the awkward silence, they'd say, ok, and we'd hang up. Ha, ha.

Good luck on that. What was accurate even just 10 years ago is not accurate now. Buy something now and it will be obsolete and inaccurate by the time of the next prophet. Ah, the ever changing, denying, and lying world of Mormonism.

I guess they get this handshaking ingrained in them from attending their cult church where everyone is pumping the hand of everyone else. It’s enough to drive you friggin’ nuts. We had this young RM who worked in my office building but only part time, so he was at work only 2 or 3 times a week. But every time I’d see him he’d reach out to shake my hand. I finally had to say, “Weâ€

My wife works at a High School. She’s not a teacher, but she has quite a bit of interaction with students, and parents too, for that matter. She cares about the kids. She’ll ask them questions to keep them thinking. She’ll ask them their plans after graduation. If they plan on continuing their education, she tries to get them to choose a school that excels in what they want to do, rath

Along with the Book of Abraham papyri they also have what Joseph Smith called the Book of Joseph papyri. Joseph said he was going to translate that as well, but met his demise before he could do it. Ask your stake president when is the prophet going to translate the Book of Joseph papyrus? As a side note, ask him if the prophet has considered translating the characters on the Anthon Transc

I served during the Viet Nam War. That sniveling bastard served a mission in France. I had a lottery number of 9. I stayed in school until I graduated, then promptly got my ass drafted. Mitt and his daddy apparently weaseled him out of the draft even after his mission. The guy is not worthy of being our commander in chief. But that's a great joke and I will use it often.

Mormons and the Mormon church try to make themselves look so mainstream and normal. And they do a pretty good job of it. Outsiders may know a few quirky things like temple marriage, abstaining from coffee, tea, and alcohol, and maybe know about the underwear. But when you really get into things Mormons do, or believe, or have done, even convincing a current day Mormon is tough. The vast major

Such is life in Utah County. My wife works at a High School in Utah County and the other day a mother came in totally irate because her son had told her a certain senior High School event was being held on a Monday. Oh, the humanity! My wife calmly explained that her son was mistaken and that the event was being held on a Tuesday. The mother immediately calmed down. Whew! That would hav

Why do Mormons and the Mormon Church insist on saying that Joseph Smith "translated" the Book of Mormon? The only portion that could remotely be called translated would be the first 116 pages, but those were lost. According to every scribe Joseph Smith had, and anyone whoever commented about it, including his wife Emma, Martin Harris, Oliver Cowdery, David Whitmer, Sidney Rigdon, Br

When it's over and she comes out of the temple, you say, "Can you believe that s*hit!? Now you know why I never want to go back. If you ever decide you want a real ceremony, let me know and we'll do something really nice and special."

I'd say the evidence is D&C 132 which states that the purpose of plural marriage was to multiply and replenish the earth. If he wasn't going to have sex with her for that purpose, then why did he marry her? Are we suppose to believe he just kept her around for 5 years THEN had sex with her? At 15, she probably just didn't get pregnant for 5 years.

I’m getting really tired of people calling and asking for donations, political surveys, or asking for personal information. First lets talk about the LDS Church. It’s been a few years now, but the LDS church used to call several times a year trying to get my kids’ addresses since they went off to school or got married. And they expected me to give it to them, like I’m going to give o

Well, if you live in the area, you might try the Fellowship Bible Church on State Street in Lindon, UT. We don't go to any church, but we went there to see Adam's Road last year. It and the people seemed very nice, and although it was our first time in the building, and we had to be strangers to everyone, not a single person bugged us. It seems to be very bible oriented and the pastor is you

I agree with you, derrida. The absence of Jesus in most all of those idiots' talks is just another indicator that they are not Christian and a sign that they are a cult of the highest degree. This is the first time I'm seen your outline and the absence of Jesus is the first thing that struck me. But then, that is normal for Mormon talks or sermons. It's all about J.S., the current prophet,

Maybe the first thing you should do is pay a visit to your wife's ballroom dance partner and tell the son of a bitch if he ever talks to your wife like that again you'll kick his ass all the way back to Missouri. Here's some quick and easy things for your wife to watch. This first one is The Bible vs the Book of Mormon: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2363703037907176107 This seco

You make an excellent point, nerdherd. I really like the way you put it that the LDS church is the only one that teaches we won't be together ... unless we follow the Mormon rules. I'll have to remember this. Thanks.
