Women also can't get into the CS without a man as well! In fact I've been reading all about what Smith, Brigham and Kimball taught, how only a priesthood holding male could bring the women forth (resurrect them!) by calling their secret temple name. This was often their main 'selling point' for getting women to enter into polygamy with them. As for them remembering all the secret names when t

Woah! I have not heard of the 'moral agency' thing at all since I haven't been to 'church' in over 20 years. :) But how creepy is that? Very Orwellian. Changing all the references to the past to pretend like it's 'always been that way'.. Also anyone in TSCC only ever had the following type of 'free' agency.. to choose between 'choice and no-choice" No-choice being the 'correct' choice

LOL. Oh REALLY? First I've heard of it, LOL. Did they go into details or follow up with any actual kind of proof? Likely it was just hearsay to them. I love how Mormons spread all kinds of gossip about all the ways in which you can 'prove' their church is 'true' when none of them actually do any kind of research or investigation into those alleged pieces of 'evidence.' And what does Central Am

My narcissist TBM dad was emotionally abusive with all of us (7 kids) and esp. to our mother. He pretty much tried to make us a polygamist family by constantly bringing home this woman he converted whom he clearly favored over our mother. He apparently had 'revelations' about her and wanted my mother to accept her into the family. My mother being a TBM herself and truly believing in priesthood au

Thanks for sharing. That was a very moving story. Never apologize about length. Take as long as you need to say what you need. I got all teary eyed reading this, it touched me that much. Thank you. You and your kids are an inspiration!

Missionaries certainly don't go reading the D&C or Pearl of Great Price to investigators/ new members. The D&C when you really read it is pretty crazy and full of contradictions and is also violent. The thing is that LDS inc. is not a Christian religion in that the 'restoration' is really about going back to Mosaic laws and old Testament vengeful God worship. It is NOT about love and

They also don't tell that Joe Smith was armed while in jail and the others in jail were armed and that there was a shoot out. He wasn't actually martyred as he wasn't defenseless and I believe their were casualties on the mob side.

7 siblings Oldest Brother - 8 kids (TBM, with super fanatical wife, definitely her choice for that many) Next Brother - 7 kids (outwardly TBM, but a sociopath, manipulator so who knows) Me- 0 (Resigned in my early 20s wasn't against kids, but didn't want a lot, then it just didn't happen, now it's late for that, which is fine with me) 1st Younger brother- 0 kids (was inactive, now a

Great news! Hope the development plans don't go through. That's a lot of houses on a small island. I love the Hawaiian islands and it has been my wish to move there someday, hopefully in the not too distant future. But I would love to keep as clear of Mormons as I can if I do! Wish they didn't have such a presence there.. but I think they are mainly on Oahu, right? (That island too pricey for me,

Very very sorry for your loss. That sounds awful. No fun to lose those we love, but worse when so suddenly and unexpectedly.:( So sorry! Hugs!

Thanks CateS. Still don't want the name mine or not. Firstly don't want to share it with him, nor be part of that 'clan' anymore.. also it's the kind of name that I'll never be able to disassociate with TSCC. :)

Thanks Tevai for all of the great advice! I thought about doing my first name as well but I feel okay with it and I guess, at least for now, I feel weird changing it. Luckily my mother named me a name she just liked and thought was pretty even though it wasn't common at the time and it certainly wasn't religious! I have had a lot of nicknames though and have gotten used to being called by di

Brigham went on record (with his public sermons) saying that the saints taking the handcarts out west would not be harmed by anything at all (and he listed all kinds of things that would likely harm them taking on his ridiculous scheme.. and said they wouldn't harm him). Well 70 people died from exhaustion, exposure, starvation, etc. on that trip. So his 'blessing' and 'revelation' were lies. And

Thanks! It does feel kind of scary. I've noticed I've had to ease into the idea. I've had a few names I liked and then I would take a few days 'trying them on' (just saying my name to myself, writing it down, etc).. and noticed that for many of them I wouldn't like them anymore after a few days.. but even for the ones I've liked, they haven't 'felt like me'… but I could see that's because I am

LOL. Maybe it could be 'AntiMormon' That would really get them! And yes I meant to add, my new name is something that also has particular meaning to me, not just choosing it for how it looks or sounds. :)

Well I am finally fed up with carrying around my father's last name and have decided to liberate myself. I did marry once and took that last name, but only as an adjunct to mine (my father's) and only valid in the country we married in. So I never used it. And I never wanted to take a man's name because of marriage. Always felt too much like ownership. That's the reason that practice started for

Also haunted, that's why I came here because of 20 years of haunting AFTER I left TSCC! Posting here has helped a lot. but even better have been the books I've found because of this site that help to deconstruct the cult. I find that the more I understand about the workings and their way of brainwashing (root cause of the haunting) really relieves that feeling. It gives me a sense of empowerm

I find myself hugging trees often because I love hanging in my hammock, that means I have to wrap my hammock straps around trees to do this and if I am trying to stay in the shade it means I hug many trees in the same day if on a camping trip (which I just got back from last week, camping in a pine tree forest, lovely).. every time I put those straps on I thought about how I was literally hugging

I posted this in a different thread, but I just finished reading 'Wife No. 19' (by one of Brigham's ex wives, back in 1875), excellent read, about 450 pages but I finished it in record time, couldn't put it down! You can get it for only a dollar at Amazon (Kindle) or Kobo Books (for Nook and other e-readers). Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Just finished the 450 paged book called "Wife No. 19" written by Ann Eliza Young, 19th wife of Brigham back in the day. She finally left him and Mormonism after a lot of suffering and wrote this book in 1875. It is incredibly insightful and I just couldn't put it down, read it very quickly. So much about the history of the early 'church' and what women in polygamist marriages suffered.

Wow, that could not be farther from the truth than any statement that anyone could ever make. Of course George Q Cannon was a total deceiver anyway. I just finished reading 'Wife No. 19' by Ann Eliza Young, the 19th wife of Brigham who apostatized and wrote this book in 1875 (published that year) to expose him as the tyrant sociopath despot he was. Great read!

I agree in re. the sobbing man story. Makes perfect sense. Likely most doing those anointing rituals are sobbing inside and just trying desperately to keep a lid on it. My ex-Mo friends who went through that, all some could say is that it was the most terrible experience ever and they never wanted to talk about it again.

I know, so totally f-ed up! But that kind of trauma is what is so effective in terms of how to control cult members! I felt that same kind of horror myself.

LOL. That is just how I remember it, the heavy jumpsuit deal full with too much water and hard to move and get out of the damned font after! I also vaguely remember something like that (wrapping breasts instead of a bra).. this was early 80s and I am pretty sure that's what we did too …

I truly do not envy you! I went to the 'Y' in the early 90s and never went back to Utah except once (southern Utah) after moving out West again and I still did not like the vibe there even though I didn't have any overt Mormon encounters.. too many bad memories.. I would not be able to live in and esp. live and work in Utah Mormondom! I am in Arizona (LIBERAL & RURAL community, if you can

Question- Something I never understood is why don't Mormons born into TSCC and who get baptized at 8 years old then get 'sealed' in the temple to their family? I remember new convert families going to the temple so they could all be sealed together. But my family never did that. We assumed we were already 'sealed' because we were already Mormon.. but that doesn't actually make any sens

There was also the hand cart disaster, almost 70 dead, and so many suffering life long consequences (like frost bitten missing hands and feet) all because of Brigham's 'divine' plan to save money on the 'saints' emigration. He felt that the wagon train ox carts methods were getting too costly and came up with a 'brilliant' plan (to make himself richer) to bring more saints than ever over from Eng
