Is that why I got such crap for my short hair at BYU? (and esp. got it from my father).. is there really something scriptural that is referred to? I don't think that can be right, unless he was thinking of what's his face who looses all his power when his hair is cut (blanking on the name).. interesting isn't it? That in the bible seems like all the men, esp. holy ones had long hair, yet Mormon m

What??! Could you really be disfellowshipped for dating a non-member? I mean aren't there plenty of mormons even married to non-members? I suppose that was an idle threat then designed to scare you into submission? That's awful. I am sorry you went through that. :(

I hate it too. It's very condescending and elitist. By implication others are NOT blessed like they are. And being a non-member (ex in my case) I can't claim to be blessed like they are, after all why would god bless an apostate, right?

Very sorry for your loss, but also sorry that you had the same kind of dad as me, so devoted to the 'church' that he neglected his relationship with you and your family. But that is the common story in Mormondom. I know my dad may die soon and I wonder how I'll feel. The thing is I tried and tried for so long to get through to him, to make him see that he was negligent (but in my case also em

I totally know this stench! To me it always smelled like saliva wetted paper (like when you were a kid and made spitballs or tried to eat paper, that smell). It made me think of stale breath and maybe it was just too airless in there and too much exhaled breath. But it's possible cheerios and diapers had something to do with it, plus a lot of bad old lady perfumes. Yuck!

Absolutely! Even when I was a TBM, I would come back utterly drained and depressed, and incredibly relieved that it was over. In fact my whole TBM family seemed relieved to get home again after, like we just endured something awful. The things is I don't think we ever asked 'does it make me happy'.. we went out of a feeling of obligation. If you believe what they tell you, that it's the 'only

Horrific indeed. Sadly reminds me of neglect in my large TBM family. I remember my brother often leaving one of the younger kids in the car after they'd get back from church to my parent's house for Sunday dinner. This because the kid had fallen asleep in his car seat and they figure they may as well just leave him there to take his nap. I don't know if they always left a window open or even thou

He may feel he loves you and wants you in his life, but if he feels the 'church' is important enough for him to stay in, continue with his mission, in spite of all of the things he's read against it.. well it's likely he's hoping to one day convert YOU, and change your mind! He may feel he wants to save you. I don't know. Sounds like an awful situation for you to be in. Long distance love is

Also it's not that the members really 'love' the church, they feel 'duty bound' to it. If the members were to be honest they'd likely be hard pressed to come up with anything they 'love' about going to church, but they would feel that they MUST go, because they believe it's god's will that they be obedient and serve god by doing what their prophet says. It is a 'religion' that is all about obliga

Check out this link- breaks down just how Mormonism fits the bill for a cult and what would be expected of you if you joined. I know someone else posted the general link already, but this is one of the surveys under that link that I find useful. http://www.mormonism101.com/2015/03/cult-characteristics-hugo-stamm.html

PS- as for the love/hate thing. That's not accurate. Many of us, while we were true believers did feel we 'loved' it as it was really the center of our lives. We were devoted to it. But you can only 'love' it while you are being deceived and being continuously lied to. Members are told a pack of lies about the history of their 'church' and about nearly every other aspect of it. Those of us who w

Well addictions are certainly traumatizing in most cases! ;) Really though, in truth you can have both happening. For example many of my family members are quite addicted but are extremely depressed and they can't figure out that the depression is actually coming from what they are addicted to, nor can they see that they are addicted. But this the case for any kind of addiction, it is destruct

Incidently just because Mormons follow a type of dietary code (I hesitate to even say 'dietary' because Mormons tend to eat very unhealthy diets in general), does not mean they are not ADDICTS. Firstly they are ADDICTED to RELIGION! When you see a happy smiling Mormon at church you see an addict getting his fix. You don't see the other side of that. And they ignore/neglect relationships with

Yes they are childlike, they are meant to be kept 'as little children' with childlike understanding of everything, discouraged to think and reason for themselves, instead meant to rely solely on the 'prophet's' guidance. It truly IS a cult. That 'peaceful' look is a facade, it really is the look of a zombified brainwashed cult member. I've seen it in other cults. Plus Mormons are notoriously very

Yeah, 'protect the widows' that's a good one. From what I just read in the book 'Wife No. 19' by one of Brigham's ex's.. he would take in widows just to use them as servants and not provide anything for them. Many of those polygamous widows would be left out on the streets to fend for themselves worse off than before. And Brigham would make the widows and their children from the previous marriage

Love it! :) Actually my aunt really paved the way for me in my family by living in sin before me, for several years with a younger man. Mine is also younger. So she helped me out on both counts. Esp. since my mom really loves her and has had to accept her leaving TSCC and then doing that. So it made it much easier on me after my mom was forced to 'get over it' and decide if she wanted her sis

Very true Summer. That's why all cults know it's best to indoctrinate as young as possible when they already think in black and white. :)

Well my niece was made to go to a Mormon therapist when her parents were the ones going crazy on her (because of her 'horrendous sin' which involved sex with her BF when she was 18).. surprisingly the counselor sided with her and said that it sounded like her parents were the ones needing therapy. I still wouldn't want to go to a Mormon therapist by any means. But just saying I guess occasiona

Church leaders, I think one of the prophets even, not too many decades ago, have even said that blacks (primarily African descent) where here to 'represent Satan on earth'!! I saw it in a youtube video on racism in Mormonism. Can't remember the video or I'd share the link, but I think it was made in the 70s. Sickeningly one of two of the comments to that video were in agreement to that stateme

I actually have a close friend who had some scary encounters with church members (in high rank I might add) who were also in the KKK (in Illinois).. they shot her dog (luckily he survived) because she had made friends with a white neighbor living with a black man. They eventually were all driven out and her marriage ended (luckily he was an abusive cheating bastard) around the same time. Her husb

So I have been openly (as in open to my TBM family) 'living in sin' with my boyfriend for the past 4 years. Since I am in my 40s now, left TSCC 20 years ago, have been married and divorced, they don't say anything to me about it. In fact we have been welcomed as a couple into my siblings homes (most of them) and my parents and even allowed to stay overnight (in the same bed/bedroom) and my parent

Thanks for the responses. I used to just call myself 'agnostic' as that seemed more okay with people. Believing in some idea of a god, but not the dogma of religion. However now I am more inclined to not believe in a god. But this doesn't mean I don't believe in after life or kindly spirits or forces working outside my power. It's just I can't see them as all wrapped up into one being. So

AHHHHH!!!!!! NOOOOOOO!!!! That's my family EXACTLY! OMG!!! Yes they have a TON of media to continually brain wash yourself with and my family have been a big contributor to lining the 'profits' pockets with more than just their tithing.. buying all that crap! My poor youngest sister, she got the worst of it.. She'd be dancing away in her crib to her favorite Mormon propaganda music cassette

So I've been thinking.. It's likely that I am an atheist as I don't truly believe in a god per se. But I've noticed that I have this underlying fear of saying I am one. I think it was ingrained in me from a young age, not just by the cult by society as a whole. Society being mostly religious worldwide (esp. in our country where it's at close to 80 percent!), of course those of us who are non

Wow, I like those stats, good news! I don't even have a good idea of TSCC's overall membership numbers, if anyone does I'd be interested to hear..
