I have made an extensive study of Asherah in ancient Israel and Canaan. If one studies this in detail it is easy to see that the Mormon beliefs have nothing to do with these beliefs and one is easily able to see that Israelite religion developed out of the old Canaanite beliefs. The short answer is no. I studied as much about Christian beginnings as Mormon and my conclusion is that its as made up as Mormonism. Also, archaeological studies in the Middle East do not show that the stories in the Torah (i.e. Moses, Noah, conquest of Canaan) ever happened.
