These episodes were recorded weeks ago, well before the excommunication letter was sent.

They want to believe. They meet nice people who seem to have ward friendships. So they don't really research it because, hey what harm can come from joining.

I think it depends on the Mission President. While I've definitely seen stories here and on other Exmo boards about Missionaries being told that if they leave to go to a funeral, they won't be welcomed back. I've also seen stories that say that Missionaries are allowed to go home for a short amount of time and that time is just added to the end of the Mission. The church won't pay for the trip ho

It may also depend on how busy and active your ward is. My ward has a lot of members and my impression is that a lot of people don't have callings simply because there are not enough jobs to go around.

The ironic thing about the WoW is that, as OP said, alcohol kills the bacteria in beverages. You know what else kills bacteria? Heating water. The WoW banned the only things safe to drink in 19th century rural America.

I guess Mormon Think has a special place in my heart. I fondly remember reading their article on the Book of Abraham for the first time during EQ and being completely shocked.

Easter and Christmas both celebrate the life of Jesus, not his death. July 4th celebrates the birth of the country, not those who died protecting it (that would be Memorial Day). New Year's celebrates a new year, not the old year.

I really don't get the love for the CES letter. I realize it's a good document, but it's not original. There's nothing in there that's not in, for example, http://www.Mormonthink.com

See also the depiction of the Temple ceremony in the 1875 book Wife No. 19. In particular, page 370, seen in this scan: http://imgur.com/a/QOFj2 But note that it says only the men get cut, the women go home and cut their garments in the same way.

Not a pulpit, but this past Sunday School was bad. The lesson was "learning from history" and the instructor began by talking about the US Civil War and the fact that they do reenactments in the South. He asked for the reasons for reenactments and got the answers he was looking for, "to learn from past mistakes." Then one lady raised her hand and said, "we fought the C

To get to tell celestial kingdom, you need to be sealed in the Temple. To do that, you need a recommend, which requires you to be a full tithe payer. I suppose you stop tithing right then, one may think you've already paid your way to the CK. But some would argue that if you lose your recommend, you're no longer worthy of CK, though I don't know if that's official doctrine.

You're wrong about the Book of Abraham. It's still taught in Sunday School as per of the Old Tesament classes.
