It is always fun to try to understand the reasoning behind weird decisions. So why did they feel like they had to make this radical statement. The LDS church has a history of caving to political pressure on doctrine. Polygamy was finally banned after years of denying it existed and teaching that it was an unchangeable law. After over 100 years of racism, they finally gave in to pr

Well they refused to accept my resignation for years. Everyone often I would get a missionary, HT, or somebody at the door. My TBM family kept them updated. I of course practised my vocabulary, hand signals, and threatened legal action to chase them away for years. I was never, ever, polite so that they could experience the blessing of "adversity". I also made a few choice phrases

Don't worry about the Mormon girls. They are wound up and confused by the religion and don't know how to flirt. At 22 it is time to be independent and strike out. Even if your parents help pay for college it would be good to get out of the house. Once you are on your own you can consider what you want out of life. Have dreams, make plans, and get out. If your not sure what you want to do

We all feel stupid when we leave. For 180 years they have mastered the art of manipulation and control. You are fighting against a well oiled machine that has a wealth of history and knowledge in fooling you.

+1 It's not grandparents or anyone else around him that matter. You need to teach him to the best of your ability what you understand. Teach him tolerance and acceptance. How you can love somebody and not agree with everything they say. Explain to him how somethings he needs to wait until he is older to understand. This is the best way to help him grow.

30-45 minute debate on the subject. Well done. It was probably the most engaging thing that happened in the class this year. Isn't Seminary less than an hour. ;-) I didn't pay that much attention to the class when I took it. Since the grades didn't matter, their was no homework, and it was the same old stuff over and over again. I used it as an one hour study time. Outing yourself for

It's not what Guy Fawkes failed to do it is what he stood for. He was upset because good old horny Henry broke with the extremely powerful Catholic church and declared independence from the Vatican political power. Fawkes was caught in a act of treason against England in favor of the old masters the Vatican. The Vatican had held power ever since the Norman invasion. It's the English

Got to wonder. With all of the sleeping around he did, do you think JS picked up some interested diseases? Perhaps he manage to pick up some syphilis early on. It could explain all of the changing visions he had.

That is actually a very old ideal that is not unique to Mormonism. Remember religion is a very powerful political tool. It has been used in almost every war until the modern age. Genocides have happened on every continent around the globe. Usually the "winners" used a religious reason to justify the event. Jews are the killers of christ (Hitler) Reclaim the holy land fr

I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that: I don't give a rats ass if there is a god or not. Agnostics: We don't give a damn.

Now the question is what was the TBM "friend" doing browsing the Ex site? You really should report her to the SP or Bishop. She might need to be disfellowshipped. It is your duty to help this poor misguided soul to a council of love. :-) Smear campaigned in the workforce can be considered as slander. This can be a civil lawsuit if you can prove it damaged you.

Fireworks, drunken revelry, bonfires, and the hilarity that the festivities were about a failed plot to destroy parliament. Missionaries had a 8pm curfew that night.

Seems like a normal replacement for alcohol. In Saudi Arabia alcohol is banned. They have strange fascination with fruit juices. The juice menu is like a wine list. Everyone also smokes like a chimney. It's all just substitutions for the good stuff.

Since you've already basically decided that you want to do it, I'll join with the group and say go for it. It might be the best thing you've ever done, 6 years of misery, or really nothing special. Your experience is uniquely yours. "The attrition rate in the training program is as high as the NAVY Seals, and it is a 6 year committment, with the first two years being in training, foll

There is no way an non-polish speaker can say most polish last names. I just gave up on the few times I visited. Great food BTW over there. The coffee will wind you up though. Great news she is the mayor. Is she married? :-).

You are doing the lords work on a mission. Marry in the temple to be happy. The temple is a holy place. You'll never be happy if you leave the church. Marrying a hispanic woman will be very difficult because of culture differences. Santa is real Joseph Smith was a prophet Dark skin color is evil the LDS church isn't racist. I could never connect how the BoM was related to the LDS Church. Very little was actually used in the lessons in the meetings. It was mostly about this GA said this "blah blah blah".

:-) LOL Most of those that *actually* think science is a religion wouldn't know those terms. I know didn't *have* to explain the terms but it was my pleasure to do so.

If you've been around scientist long enough you realize that for quite a few of them it is a religion. All praise the holy four replicated randomized block design. Kneel before the P=0.05 holy altar of significance. Genuflect to to double blind study of randomness.

Evil-ution (gotta spell it right if your in the south), is a numbers game. It's all about who has the most kids that live long enough to have more kids. I have 2 kids, they have 9 kids. Evil-ution says that right now she's winning (gotta wait a few generations to say for sure) Her stupid ass genes are going to spread more rapidly than mine.

Electric eel... My wife wouldn't let me get one for my aquarium. Mean lady. I had more fun with the electric fence as a kid. I remember one time my older sisters were repairing the fence and trusted me to unplug it and then plug it in for them when they were done (I was about 11). I unplugged it, waited a minute to make sure they were both touching it and plugged it back in. I didn't eve
