So I haven't really been bothered with any TBMs from my area since I’ve stopped going to church a few years ago.
Except that during the last few months, there have been moments when my doorbell rang and by the time I get there, because it has always been at importune moments, I look out the window of the front door and no one is there. But the last time it happened I saw a car parked a few doors down and with lights on and two people in the car. And I automatically thought “Mishies”.
And I was right. I arrived from work late last night. I live in a building where the apartment of the main floor and the upstairs one, have each a locked door at the entrance of their respective apartment, but share the same front door and the stairs of the upper is inside of the building.
The outside light as well as the inside entrance light were on. It was rather odd because we have never left both of them on like that. Usually, if one of us know that they will need it because we’ll arrive late or something we will keep the light out on but that's rare.
After I unlocked the front door, entered and locked the door after me, I go up the stairs puzzling about the inside light being on and I reached my apartment front door and ‘lo and behold’, there is a aqua-coloured post-it on my door. At first I thought that maybe my downstairs neighbor left me a message but he has never done that before. No, it was from the mishies.
“Dear quebec, we are the sister missionaries of [city] and we can’t wait to meet you. We know that HF loves you very much and he’s always there to help you. We love you! Don’t hesitate to call us if you need anything, you can reach us at xxx-xxx-xxxx, Sister So and Sister So.
P.S. Helaman 5:12”
My first thought: "Yeah, something to share with the RfM community! ;-)" I always feel like I've not much to contribute.
Then, I decided to look-up Helaman 5:12. I remembered well the first part but not the rest.
“ 12 And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall.”
I imagine that the mishies and the people of the ward from my area think either that I’m in the pit of despair [images of Princess Bride in my mind there] or something like that and life has been battering me around because I don’t go to church anymore, or else there has been again an emphasis on the supposed fact that we are in the last days and things will become even more evil and crazy and one will need to be back in church to survive all of this.
In any case, going back to church would actually be the thing that would be a living hell.
I haven’t decided what I will do. A part of me wants to let it go, not do anything about it. A part of me wants to call them and either speak to them directly, or leave them a message (or go through the bishop or the WML) and tell them how inappropriately I think they have acted. Why?, because the scenario seems to be that they found the front door not well clenched, and opened it, went up to my door and left the post-it and then left leaving all the lights on, meaning they probably came rather late. My neighbor hasn’t seen them or been asked to put the post-it or anything like that. You can’t miss our door bells and they function quite well. And if you’ve tried the door bell and knocked and no one answered and you want to leave a note you do so in the mailbox. You don’t just enter because you’ve found the door not well closed.
