laying off / firing staff, replacing them with 'volunteers'

I just gotta wonder: in a multi-billion $ empire (of Doom) like ChurchCo... aren't these wages / salaries minuscule in proportion to their other expenses?

IOW, WHY did they do this? Certainly it's a bug in members' butts!


I repeat: WHY? Did they really think members would enjoy these added responsibilities/duties?

I don't know. Some members consider it a privilege. I imagine the next step is to ask for "volunteers" to clean the GA's mansions and vacation homes.
