I've been visiting this site since moving to Utah recently.
I understand that leaving something behind which you thought was true is painful, and takes time to recover.

But, realistically, anyone care to answer this question?
Did you leave TSCC because of a conflict of conscience, or was
it something else?

It's another section of RfM for exit stories.

Resigned officially after some years of being a non believer and long contemplation in 2002.

I resigned in 1996 after a several-years long process of disengagement from the cult. Three years before resigning, I had joined another church. You would think that this would be grounds for my excommunication or for permitting my resignation. But no! I took several months and two personal visits to the Membership Records office.

Inactive after finding out details about church history which was mostly previously unknown to me. Knowing that history, I could no longer convince myself, let alone others, that the church was true. It was/is a sad and painful process, but at least I'm now living an authentic life.

Conflict of conscience for me.

Went inactive for a while, but didn't resign right away because I was open to changing my mind.

I resigned the moment I realized I had reached "the point of no return", that is, the point where I knew I couldn't possibly ever return to the church.
