When I was a kid, Duane Crowther's book "Prophecy: Key to the Future" was the text for gospel doctrine class. It apparently had a lot of "deep doctrine" in it. (I wouldn't know. I never read it.) I just know it's about the 7th thousand years, End of the World preparation stuff. The Amazon spiel says, "The research in this book will help all who read it to prepare for the events to come." Point is, even if the book is somewhat ridiculous (again, I don't know if it is--I'm just supposing) at least the non-correlated church used to allow people to read, ponder, and think.

I have it. Bookcraft c1962, 9th printing 1964. I haven't read it either; I inherited it along with a lot of other old mormon books. But yeah, Skousen and Crowther - those were the days.

Chapters:
1. War to be poured out upon all nations
2. Missionary work among the gentiles
3. God will pour out his judgments
4. Internal wars and the collapse of the US Government
5. The establishment of the kingdom of God
6. Establishment of the new Jerusalem
7. Four important events in America
8. The gathering of the house of Israel to Palestine
9. Plagues and the book of Revelation
10. Universal conflict and the fall of the Christian nations
11. Christ's appearance in the council of Adam-ondi-Ahman
12. Growth and development in Zion and Palestine after the universal conflict
13. The battle of Armageddon and Christ's appearance on the Mount of Olives
14. Christ's coming in glory
15. The millenium
16. Events at the end of Earth.
17. The Earth's final state

My parents read this but not the bom. I vaguely remember reading it. I as about 10. A horrible thing for a young child to read.My mother believed all this stuff and talked about it constantly. Fear has always been foundational to mormonism.

I remember it very well.

Dwayne Crowther's other book, "Thus Sayeth the Lord" was a critique of modern revelation. He concludes that the Joseph Smith revelation did not come from the god of the bible.

This book resulted in Crowther's banishment and is the reason you never hear him mentioned among the greats. During my time of Mormon activity, he was up there with McConkie and Kimball as great GA authors.

His books, like cludgie says, are now banned.

Oh yeah, I read this one many years ago. I'm pretty sure my stepfather still has it in his library. As I recall, Crowther leaned heavily on Orson Pratt, who just did not know when to shut up. The book could easily be subtitled "Orson Pratt's Greatest Brain Droppings."

It's interesting the book was first published around the time of the Cuban missile crisis. I'll bet that the combination of that crisis and this book sent Utah into full panic mode, from which some segments have yet to recover.

Don't leave out Farnsworth's "Americas before Columbus"

It is a mezzo American photographic tour of ruins. Beautiful photography. Bad conclusions.
