"Keep your eyes on the leadership of the church...we will not and cannot lead you astray."

Elder Ballard 3 minutes ago.

In case you were feeling a little insecure in your faith, it's nice to know that they are still infallible!

"We're not out of touch, brothers and sisters..."

We are not out of touch because we are still functioning quite nicely in 1950 and we are the cool kids.

Exactly. I've led companies, non-profit organizations, sports teams and my family. In all that time I have never had to make the statement:

"I'll never lead you astray."

Ever, ever, EVER!

What an obvious load. They published an essay this year on how Brigham Young "led us astray". So what date was it when they became infallible?!

Hey Strengthening Members Committee.

I recorded this talk because it's awesome. Feel free to edit it before it is published in the Ensign. I'll link the recording to your publication.

MiB.

Yes! Hope they do edit. An example of deception while claiming not to deceive. Of course, The Ensign, is not th Church or the leaders, it's just a magazine that reports on the Church.

I'm guessing they are trying to polish the turd of being wrong about gay marriage for starters. They embarrassed themselves, raised money and lost the fight.

Even the average member with his head in the sand should realize this is a deja vu of all the other civil rights issues the church was wrong about.

They HAVE to know that makes them look bad.

Good luck spinning that one, brethren. We will not lead you astray. Repeat after me!

Pathetic.

Since when does the LDS church have a doctrine of infallibility??

It is called by Mormons "continuing revelation" but it is the same thing. God is in charge and so they are infallible.

So how do all the liberal LDS and apologist defenders who have dismissed the Romney story about Heber J.Grant saying essentially the same thing? This is in essence a claim of infallibility that defenders always say is concocted by bitter anti exmos.

And sure, I get that the hierarchy pays lip service to the idea that they can make individual mistakes but think generally they cannot lead the Church astray. I suppose the issue then is what is big enough to constitute 'astray'?

Was plural marriage a big enough issue— (given that you see it as the man-made mess it was)?

What about excluding a whole race from full participation based on the false view they were cursed (pure racism)?

What about getting the foundational stories all wrong?

What about mistaking the BoM for the ancient text JS claimed it was?

What about being wrong about science and evolution?

etc. etc. etc.

This is nothing new. It's in the Doctrine and Covenants, OP-2

It has been repeated by GAs any number of times since then.

Don't worry, the Givens will be able to spin this into a better light.

Like Terryl saying: "Well, John, it depends on what the definition of "astray" is."

Reminds me of Nixon's "I am not a crook."

If you have to say it, you're in trouble. (Or you are trouble.)

Amen! I am always skeptical of someone who has to say they 'are' something: "I'm a nice person!" Uh...no you're not. "I'm funny!" Um...I'm not laughing. "I'm not a liar!" Yeah...I hadn't thought you were, but now I do!

No wonder they told my friends in leadership meetings this summer, that the essays published last year should only be used as needed and not to disribute the essays to the membership at large. I still have friends in low places.

You see, in those essays they admit that for 140 years all the Prophets, seers and revelators were talking out of their collective asses regarding the policies about "blacks and the Priesthood', and furthermore restraining Blacks from receiviung the priesthhod was never church doctrine and they (the past prophets) were speaking only as men.

Also, they admitted that they had been teaching the members of the church that Polygamy had ended in 1890, only to change their minds and admit it went on until 1904.

So D. Michael Quinn, who was forced out of the church was right and the Council of 15 assholes was wrong, and now they have a entire 10 hours of how to shut up, sit down and follow them.

Jesus wept. What a bunch of egomaniacal dirtbags.

I beg to differ. They've already "led people astray" numerous times. Prop 8 comes to mind. And of course decades of lying to me about Mormon history and the character of it's players.

I will watch this talk.

We will not and cannot lead you astray.

That is so loaded.

How to hold "We" accountable? That will be the issue surrounding this GA talk.

Vetted, I am sure. If I recall he is top 6, will need to double check. Wasn't he a car saleman?
