Somebody at my law firm brought up this question, and led to some good discussion. Hilariously enough, all 4 of us are ex-members.

Who would your answer be and why?

Within Mormonism or otherwise?

In the larger context, I would say:

Philo Farnwsorth
Ezra Taft Benson
Harry Reid
Mitt Romney
Osmonds et al

To the secular world???
Donny Osmond. Why? Music and fans.
Mitt Romney. Why? Showed his true flip-flopping, lying ways.
Harry Reid. Why? Just famous, but he did call out Mitt on not paying taxes.
David Archuleta. Why? I don't know why? tween-age girls.

Paul H. Dunn.

Why?

He demonstrated (under duress) the foundational principle of Mormonism...
deception.

John Huntsman. Huntsman chemical is one of the world's top polluters.

GB Hinckley. Under Kimball, he took over the First Presidency, and effectively ran the church for decades.

Yes. Exactly. That's why you were warned against it in the temple.

There was nothing sacred about pantomiming slitting my own throat. The temples are bullshit and the prophet is a fraud.

I agree with Kate Kelly. Seeing how poorly that whole she and that whole issue was treated finally opened up my eyes to see that articulate, educated women with independent minds aren't and *NEVER WILL* truly be welcomed in TSCC. After all, God knows what might come out of their mouths!

Spencer W. Kimball, for proving he was not an apostle or prophet by claiming that American Indians were turning white. Also for teaching that whites should marry whites and Indians should marry Indians. And for teaching that if a young couple chooses a civil marriage first over a temple sealing, they might not be together if one of them dies in that year long wait. But he was not married in the temple first and didn't have to wait a year to get sealed. The rules he imposed on the church never applied to him. SWK pumped out some serious bullshit. His book the Miracle of Forgiveness caused incredible harm to individual members of the LDS church.

Any one of the 3 nephites for being able to stay incognito for this long

Any person on this board, or anywhere else, who has resigned or been excommunicated.

Any of those (us) have shown more honesty and courage than anyone who's stayed.

Probably Adolph Hitler since LDS Inc has baptized him and married him so many times in an effort to get it right.

One might add Ronald Reagan, Pope John Paul II, Mother Theresa, Chairman Mao, Joe Stalin, Pol Pot, and Jeff Dahmer, Kim Il Sung and his son, Kim W.

I would also assume writer Christopher Hitchens has now been made a mormon since he has been dead three years.

I think the OP means people who were both Mormons and alive at
the same time . . . which rules out Richard G. Scott.

All I can tell you are my least favorites, in no particular order:

Bruce R. McConkie
Boyd K. Packer
Spencer W. Kimball
Marie Osmond

I actually don't mind Donny Osmond. And for some reason I've never really minded Gordon B. Hinckley, he's always seemed like a very non-threatening GA, although I'm sure he's no different of a fraud than any other GA.
