Anyone seen this mega Mormon family act? For some reason, I was reminded of them yesterday when they had a turn on America's Got Talent. Although I respect their musical skills, I think they're a little too cornball for my tastes.

Yikes.

Edit: My bad. It was the Hughes I saw and not the Duttons. The Hughes are all Mormon and they said they were during the show to explain an absentee family member on a mission. And they all moved from Utah to Branson.

I saw them live in Independence, Missouri on The Fourth of July. Great show. One thing did disturb me though. One family has like 16 kids. I didn't think that was all that and then there was the other thing. I noticed how when the children weren't performing it was obviously the older children's duty to chase around the younger children.

Grandma sat with the sound and lights guy the whole time and I didn't see her do anything other than talk to people. She is the boss but there were long stretches where she was only watching with us all the kids running around the stage constructed for them.

And no adult ever appeared. Kids run the two purchasing tables and grandma helped out with one of those before, during intermission and after their show.

It was a great show and very entertaining but the big family thing and the obvious signs of kids taking care of themselves was not pleasant.

You are hereby ordered to report to Escondido, CA, and turn in all your Lawrence Welk videocasettes.

I live about 4 miles from the Welk resort. Never been to the museum.
I do play at the two par-3 golf courses now and then...:)

OMG. The first split second of that video: The Mormon Smile! And they all look clones.

We have a big Catholic family band, Celtic Spring, around here that's most famous as finalists on 'America's Got Talent' when Piers Morgan told them to "sack" the six year-old from the band.
Anyway, they are super talented, seem very happy, and super Catholic, but they have three little cousins that are being trained up to also be super musicians, and I have never once seen these little kids smile or even show a lot of enthusiasm while performing, so there's that side of it. I suspect there's a lot of fake smiling going on in performing families who want to be the next King Family.

Fantabulous!!!

I spent many years as professional cornetist and I assure you that, all other thing considered, that was a virtuoso performance.

I'm partial to Natalie MacMaster's and Donnell Leahy's brood.
