Way Out:

Please forgive me. I was out of line for including you in a group that would be considered intelligent and thinking individuals.

I won't make that mistake again.

:-)

Little Nevermo said, "We like to think of ourselves as intelligent, thinking individuals. This type of behaviour doesn't exemplify that in the least."

We? Are you speaking on behalf of the forum as a whole? Is there some policy or mission statement at exmormon.org that specifies how "we" must act, speak, and think so as not to bring shame and ill-repute upon the group?

You are very presumptious to use "we" and "ourselves". Is this the BorgMind or something?

If you want to say "I like to think of the members of this forum as intelligent, thinking individuals [and t]his type of behaviour doesn't exemplify that in the least," that would be perfectly acceptable as your own opinion.

In my opinion, it sounds like you presume to speak for all of us and I want to make sure you know that you do not speak for me and I do not presume that you speak for anyone else but yourself.

LOL - I set myself up for that one and got a laugh out of it, too.

My point still stands that your statement about how "we like to think of ourselves" here on this forum stands out to me as a statement on behalf of "us". The level of intelligence and thinking of the individual forum members (myself included) and how we like to individually think of our individual selves is irrelevant.

When I read your post with that statement in the original thread, the subtext that jumped out at me was: "Topper, you are not living up to the expectations of the group. Shame on you." Group-think just really stands out to me as one of the big problems Mormonism has.

I'm wondering if "Way Out" might be in need of a referral...

To a specialist who does transplants in the genital region, whether testes or ovaries; that laser shot would've neutered or spayed either gender...

Okay, I read the original post, and Topper--who can't handle my criticism anyway and has accused me of bullying in the past--really deserves a rebuke for desecrating the environment by tossing the BOM into the lake... Even if it is probably biodegradable...

Hey, I'm all for symbolic purging of Mormon issues (I was even once "unbaptized" at an Exmormon Conference as proxy for a deceased Mormon leader), but maybe a symbolic burning while dancing around a fire--choice of dress or lack thereof optional--or some such would be preferable (in an area where fires are permitted).

My passive-aggressive style would be to scribble something like "For a free 10% pay raise, go to www.exmormon.org" in the flyleaf and maybe leave it in a Marriot or donate it to the D.I.

And a Cabbie note to Little Nevermo (and you can ask my friends, I'm a Big Nevermo or at least a slightly overweight one): People here are really angry and pissed when they find out what a fraud the church is...

Best to cut them some slack, and from my experience, their excesses pale in comparison to many of the leaders and muckety-mucks in LDS, Inc.

And for the record, Little Nevermo, you didn't "include me", you presumed to speak on everyone's behalf. As if we had to agree with you in order to actually be "intelligent and thinking" people. Whether *you* "include" someone or not has absolutely no bearing.

And SL Cabbie, what you call a "laser shot" to the genitalia was anything but. Even if Little Nevermo were to have said, "We like to consider ourselves as humans," the point I have been making would have nothing to do with the question of whether we're humans or not, but rather Little Nevermo's presumption to speak for "us".

I didn't read the original thread so I am not taking sides, but I agree thisthat is a pretty diverse group and that nobody speaks for all of us. We are individuals with different beliefs, personalitiesand experiences.

(which is something, because I hardly ever do that--in fact, this may be the first time)

and wondering about Cabbie's carbon footprint

Well, lessee...

I drive a car that gets 30+ mpg; the ol' police interceptor taxi doesn't do that well, I know... Now how do we divide up what's my role and what's my fare's role? I'm usually sitting with the engine off even in the July heat unless I'm chasing an order for the assh-er-dispatcher...

Most taxis are older vehicles that have long exceeded their warranty expectations (some in our company's fleet have over half-a-million miles on them), so consideration has to be given to evaluating what the impact of the non-recyclables in junked cars would be on the environment (and the energy required to transport the shredded cars back to the steel re-users, many of which are overseas).

I'm not a vegetarian, so I guess that counts against me, and I live alone (having had lots of experiences with roommates, most of them bad; other cabbies have been among the worst).

I drink tap water from plastic water bottles I refill and reuse repeatedly (despite the histrionics' claims they somehow become carcinogenic after reuse).

I use a Mac computer that has a demonstrably much longer useful life than anything built by Michael Dell or any of the PC manufacturers...

I recycle paper and plastic bags (yeah, I know, I could do better there, but money is tight), and I yell at the Wal-Mart clerk if they use too many plastic bags (and I generally insist on paper everywhere else).

I dona't drink much soda pop--or any beer--so the only aluminum cans are when I have my kids over and one of them has a coke...

I suppose the worst thing I do is--hopefully--raise the anxiety level of a lot of Mormons, causing them to respire more and increase carbon dioxide levels...

I'm open for suggestions other than what the trolls and mopologists think I should do (hint: rhymes with "Mary, Mary"). BTW, only one kid is mine; the other just comes in the deal... I think that compares really favorable with all these Mormons around where half-a-dozen is barely over par...

Your carbon footprint is probably about the same as mine--maybe smaller, since I'm using your share of plastic grocery bags and bottles. But of course I was just wondering, not judging.
