I had a deal with the old bishop. I wouldn't share my disbelief with the ward members if he wouldn't turn me into a ward council project.
I kept my word, he kept his.
Two weeks ago he was released and called into the stake presidency.
Guess who emailed me asking for a sitdown to "get acquainted?"
Yep. The stake president.
Thats okay. It was to be expected. And I intend to be upfront and crystal clear when I talk to the SP tomorrow night. I have no fear.

I cannot wait for the return and report on this one.

Inquiring minds...

Why even bother?

I agree. Why waste time, gas, one ounce of mental capacity to a purpose and person with no point? Wasted effort.

Our SP is one guy no one is afraid of.
His inspirational talk at the latest stake conference was about his lost car keys! Unbelievable!

Sounds like you're wasting your time then.

Everyone has different reasons for what they do or spend thier time doing.

Obviously you think this would be a waste of time for you. But rutabaga may have a completely different viewpoint.

If it were me, I would go out of curiosity and entertainment. I know I am never going to change the mind of a SP. But I think it would be an interesting conversation.

Everyone here is correct.
I'd rather not go. But if I don't go and tell him in clear and certain terms what my situation is, I'll always be looking over my shoulder.
I'm confident in my position. It will be interesting to see what SP comes up with.
Thank you all for the input.

Don't go. Tell him you couldn't find your car keys and missed the meeting.

you can record the "conversation," either for your sake or for posterity's sake?

Good idea, but my lowly Android doesn't do voice recording without an app.

Just bring the CES letter, it'll make the visit quick. ;)

My stake president requested a meeting with me and I told him straight out ------ why waste both of our time?

There is no way I am going to go meet with him or anyone else in the church!

He wants to try out his new Super Powers on you!

Get it. "SP" stands for Super Powers. Nyuck, nyuck nyuck!

I crack myself up.

I thought it was funny too. Sadly though, I think some of the SP's think they have super powers.

LOL
I think his super power is channeling Hnery Eyring.
Our SP gets weepy remembering canned peaches in his basement.

I agree with the advice "don't go". It will be pointless. The best slap in the face is not acknowleding their "authority".

Y'all have valid points.
Right or wrong, good or bad, after keeping all this bottled up for 6 years I just want to have my say.
This seems like the time and place to do it.

It sounds like you are going to meet him because you want to. That's a perfectly good reason to go. It also sounds like you expect to get something out of it. I'd do the same.

Maybe it's closure, maybe it curiosity. Hell, even if you're just bored and want to troll the guy it's a valid reason.

I'm a bit jealous of the attention some of ya'll get. I quit going to church, got one request from thee bishop to meet, which I declined, and then nothing...

But SP's, area authorities, etc.? Some of ya'll must really be missed!

(Actally, I'm super glad that they leave me alone. )

Same here. Never was bothered, before or after resignation. But that was in late 90's, and the level of resignations was not critical.

You could use it as a decent opportunity to plant some seeds and dispel the myth that all who leave are lazy/offended/sinful.

It's been about 4 years ago that I told the SP to go to hell. I guess he did because I haven't heard from him since.
