Seeing Ammon Bundy in the news inspired me to ask, what are the goofiest Book of Mormon names you've come across, meaning a person actually having that name in real life? I've meet Nephis, Lehis, Ammons, Jaroms, Sariahs and people with Moroni as a middle name. What about you? Ever met anyone named Gidgiddoni or Cumenihah? How about Abinadi, Limhi, Mosiah, Omner, or Himni?

Met a young woman named Zarahemla, Zara for short, at BYU.

My companion ages ago when I was a ward teacher was named Ether.

My great uncle named Mormon Shumway had a reputation as a brawler. I can only imagine why.

We used to laugh when someone named their child something really out there, that what they really were naming their child was "Throw the ball at my head". Most of those names outside of Utah would be qualified as that.

I have a cousin named Limhi, two second cousins from different families named Ether.

And my TBM grandfather named my dad "Sharon," after the region in Israel. That was in 1933, when "Sharon" was most certainly already a woman's name. He used to kid that he was the real-life "A boy named Sue." :)

I've never met a man named Sharon, or even a child for that matter.

Ariel Sharon might count, but that's his last name and he's Israeli.

I'm sure most missionaries in Spanish-speaking countries have met kids named Elder.

There's a radio personality in LA named Larry Elder. I want him to convert so that his kids can go on English-speaking missions: Elder Elder and Sister Elder.

Men surnamed Bishop. I giggle thinking of them being called to be a bishop.

Well my folks prayed and prayed for a son.

When I finally arrived, they named me Kay. Go figure.

I had never heard of another man with that name until I sent in my resignation letter.

The SP who I sent it to had the first name Kay. Go figure.

I had a male missionary companion, from an historic TBM family, named Kim. Not even he could explain why his parents named him that :)

Sir Kay was a knight of the round table!

when I was a kid, I knew of two brothers in the San Joaquin Valley who were named Laban (as in the guy from the old country whom Nephi killed to obtain the genealogical records, not as in Laman, the brother of Lemuel) and Lemuel. They were actually members of what was the Reorganized church, now known, I think, as the Community of Christ.

Was there a Sir Reginald?

Thankfully my folks gave me that manly middle name which I can go by.

Hay Seus, Shummy! What a powerful name for a GA, with the first name initial!

There was a kid named Nephi in my junior high school.

How did I know? He was always getting called to the principals office over the intercom.

So either the name failed to inspire the kind of righteousness the parents envisioned. Or maybe he felt just like Nephi: "well it's against the rules, but God told me to do it so f@&$ you!"

Pretty sure that's what my folks had in mind olddog.

Too bad I blew my chance.

In my In Laws family they have an Ammon, Talmage and Holland. I also have a gay Mexican friend named Nephi. He hates the name (:

Afraid so.

Think how many old coots would have to die off first.

I'd be pooping in my diapers before I had a shot at a spot.

At my old job, we had an employee called Nephi!! He quit a few months after I was let go. I don't think he was a fan of all the drama going on with the store's management!

I have a nephew named Ammon. Not a Book of Mormon name, but one of my older brothers is named Coulson after Charles Coulson Rich, the only time I've seen it used as a first name.

Why would mormon parents choose to name their son Lemuel?

Makes as much sense as naming a kid after Orrin Porter Rockwell.
