Kristyn Decker was a 7th generational polygamist. She is the 12th of 23 biological children of “prophet” Owen Allred. While raising her seven children to believe in polygamy, Kristyn taught school off and on for 18 years in the AUB private school her children attended while also struggling with years of un-answered questions and suicidal depression. After being offered some much-needed therapy, she began to discover her authentic self.

In 2003 she ended her 33-year marriage and left polygamy. Decker then became the president of the Hope Organization, dedicated to assisting survivors of polygamous relationships. After publishing her first book, Fifty Years in Polygamy – Big Secrets and Little White Lies, Decker founded the Sound Choices Coalition. She spends numerous hours volunteering in many aspects of the SCC, speaking to inform society about the realities of polygamy and to advocate for its victims. Kristyn also completed and published a new, uncensored version of her book.

As a result of her work, Kristyn has had a wonderful opportunity to speak in many locations across our country. She has appeared on, among others, The Today Show; CNN Weekend News; Good Morning AZ; NPR Community Voices; The Fawn Rigan Show - WCCO – Minneapolis; KTAR Talk Radio; Jay Lawrence, KSL A.M. News; as well as frequent presentations at various conferences, book clubs, Rotary clubs, churches, and libraries.
