I don't think it's going to be possible (as much as I would desire it) to use the legal system to end Mormonism. It's going to take someone on the inside (a'la the Panama Papers) to expose LD$, Inc. Even then, the true believers (FLDS, AUB et. al) will continue to believe in what they think is the "truth."

Very good question.

One of the basic standards in the civil law is that a plaintiff must have "standing". Meaning that no way could I ask a court to enforce my curiosity to see the financials of the church. A church lawyer would easily prove to the court that I have no standing to sue, since I am obviously an apostate and have not given the church any money since 1970, when I was giving $9 per month.

So... could an 'active' member, a proven tithe payer, get a court to issue an order that he, the proven tithe payer, be shown all the financials of the church?
