La Saucie and I went out for a walk, knowing the time the ISS was set to pass overhead, here in No. Orange County (6:31 to 6:36 p.m.) and we saw it.

We waved and someone waved back! I think it was a Russian...

Now we feel all connected to the Universe!

I think I saw it also here in Arizona around the same time. I was in the front yard rounding up the cat when I noticed a fairly bright light passing by. It didn't have the typical characteristics of an airplane (no blinking lights). It was just a solid light moving quickly.

Recently, I went up to a top of a mountain with my best friend, JackMo. Everything was so clear--we could see satellites sweeping across the sky. We enjoyed a couple of beers, cussed a lot, and urinated out doors. Fun times!

I've seen it a couple of times, and I like to wave at it when I see it. It's also fun to follow the ISS on Instagram as they post some really neat pictures from up there.

Grew up in Clear Lake City Texas (home of NASA) during the Apollo, Skylab/Shuttle years. Used to lay on our roofs to watch Skylab fly over-with our neighbors inside. Shuttle could be seen in later years. Cool times.

Thank you for the links. My next opportunity will be Oct. 31st at 7:31 am for 6 minutes. I will be up then anyways and will simply step outside and look up. Awesome Blossom.

Best sighting for me was about ten years ago when the ISS and shuttle were near each other and you could watch them both transit.

Cool.

Thanks, eod, for bringing up the topic. And to quatermass for the links! This stuff is fascinating to me, and also, it's nice to have something that *is* just nice to read about, sometimes.

Now that I know how to find the times that it might be visible, I will be running outside to see if I can see it. I have a problem with the whole horizon thing, though, as I am surrounded by high hills, so it's got to be visible in one or two very narrow directions. And I am never sure what they mean by the horizon. Like, if that is what you see when you are standing on the beach and looking out over the ocean --- how do you compensate if you are not on the beach and have bumpy landmasses all around? Do you suppose that I could put in a request for some course adjustments? Extra flashing lights for visibility when not at the optimum viewing angle?

Prayer! Prayer will work!

If ghawd can 'stop' the sun in its course, stopping the ISS and pointing an orange arrow at it will be child's play for him.

How do you find out when the ISS will pass by. I am sure would like to see it on the next time around.

ETA: Remember!!! When you stand there looking up at the astronauts, they can look back, right down the front of your blouse/dress, etc... just a word to the demure.

I seen it too. There will be several more opportunities, you can find the times for your area by following the link.

I waved and I think I seen someone hold up two small white pillows to the window but I don't know what was up with that.

The night sky away from the light pollution of the city is truly aweinspiring on a clear night...when my kids visit from the city its like they havent seen the stars before...not sure how true it is...it was on one of those dammit cant sleep all night talk shows...but apparently with night vision binoculars you can actually see star wars taking place above us...imma get some binocs...just to watch the coyotes steal dogfood ...unless star wars is real...then ill watch that...trampolines make a great observation post...a moonless night in the country can be as dark as the inside of a cow...truly blessed...tender mercies...haha

How do you keep the binoculars steady as you're bouncing on the trampoline?

You don't bounce, of course, you take a couple of nice, warm blankets out, and a pillow, and a brace to hold up the binoculars, and you wrap up in the blankets and lie down with your head on the pillow, and then you

oh! sorry I keep falling asleep....
