The closest the Cowboys come to a workout bonus is with new offensive lineman Byron Bell. He can earn up to $450,000 if he makes a predetermined weight the first day of minicamp, training camp and the regular season.

This guy is on my "God save me from some of the victims of this world" list.

Incidentally, according to the article, he didn't have that much of an NBA career...

>After college, Lance went on to play 10 years of professional basketball (mostly overseas), including playing a year for the Cleveland Cavaliers with Lebron James (pre-Miami), amongst other teams (he even met Larry Bird!).

Met Larry Bird, eh? Shoot, I had Majerus in my cab twice (and once delivered flowers to his hotel after one of his medical episodes; those issues figured far more into his inactivity as a coach than the Allred drama. A review of Rick's "five day career" at USC aptly illustrates this reality). He was a class act, period, and I considered him a friend.

Unfortunately, criticizing Allred is probably politically incorrect.

And a Cabbie note to John Dehlin if you're reading this: Allred's "what is your polygamy" is simply the "frozen shame" that the late John Bradshaw identified; your "scrupulosity" is another manifestation of the dichotomous thinking that bedevils us all as we attempt to shed the shackles of of our inculcated narcissism.

Cue up Walt Kelly's "Pogo": "We have met the enemy, and he is us."

One thing from the page intrigued me:

"Lance developed scrupulosity (religious OCD), at least partially as a result of both perfectionism, and guilt/shame relating to matters of sexuality."

That was new to me. Interesting reading:

He gave a great Ted Talk (npr). Look for it.
