I conducted a computer search of the board. The name Mills Crenshaw was NOT mentioned in the last 30 days according to that search. So I presume that the (old) news of Mills' death was not mentioned on the board. Mills died on Dec 20 2016, almost 30 days ago. I discovered that fact a few days ago. Mills was a conservative talk show personality in Utah going back to 1965. That means 50 years on the radio in Utah, granted that it was not at KSL. Mills also blatantly promoted MORmONISM and MORmON style Christianity through out his broadcast career.

I am curious to see what the reaction on the RFM board will be, since Mill's demise failed to even register here until this posting /notice.

I've never heard of him. So it shouldn't be surprising that I didn't notice he had died.

Sometimes I almost wish dead people could have their consciousness survive just long enough to find out that their imagined wonderful afterlife doesn't exist. Oh, well. :)

Cabdriver Confession: I've lived in the Salt Lake Valley for over sixty years and never heard of him...

I'll take your word for it, however.

I do remember when KSL ran Garner Ted Armstrong late at night... He lost me when he essentially became a follower of Von Däniken and started talking about ancient aliens appearing to the prophets in the Bible.

I would listen to Mills, Joe Redburn and others. They had a small station on State St near 3rd or 4th South.

The IRS took his bar away from him because he was spending everything on his "young friends," and last I saw him he was living on a very limited income in a small apartment.

I didn't even get mad when he called me "Honey." :-)

growing up in SLC with Mormons all around me. Joe's show was great and a breath of fresh air in stifling Mormondumb. He had a radio voice second to none. I also enjoyed checking one of the other hosts out at Safeway where I worked while going to the U who was a Yale drama graduate. It showed me folks living an authentic life even in Utah. Tom Carlin I think.

I had Bob Barnett in the cab eight or ten years ago...

I asked him his destination, and he said the "State Tithing Agency" in Holladay.

He meant the liquor store...

To me, Joe Redburn sounded a lot like Tom Brokaw who has great (deep sonorous) voice, especially if Tom had been drunk to a certain extent to account for the meat chops aspect of Redburn's vocals. Redburn was told that to his face at one point. His reaction was priceless. I am laughing just thinking about it.

I used to listen to Mills on KTKK when I lived in SLC.

I recall him once mentioning to someone propounding a religious
view other than Mormonism, to realize that, of course, he COULD
BE wrong. Someone picked up on that and called to ask Mills if
he also COULD BE wrong about Mormonism? Mills paused for a
second, said, "no," and hung up on him.

I freely admit that I wanted to see what the general reaction to Mill's life and passing was going to be before I had any influence on the direction of the commentary.

I think it is fair to say that for the most part it has been more of a NON reaction than anything else. Mills would be very disappointed about that, and even more so, Mills would refuse to admit that disappointment, because that is the MORmON way of pretending to be humble. It is amusing that, beyond my intro, Joe Redburn - a broad casting personality who would be quite contemporary in time and setting however antithetical to Mills, actually garnered more directed commentary here than Mills did. That would irritate Mills, because, speaking from a MORmON perspective, Mills represented good and Joe represents evil, so its a sad situation where evil is getting more attention than good. Mills would concentrate on that irritation because, once again in a MORmON context, that kind of big themed irritation is far more permissible than open acknowledgment of being personally upstaged by a rival (see my MORmON mother and her life for reinforcement on that principle).

IF there is anything wrong with Christianity, it is the way that people like Mills have used it to manipulate and subjugate and exploit others. (See the Roman Catholic Church, Christianity in general, and MORmONISM) Mills never missed a chance to promote MORmONISM and his special self proclaimed far above average appreciation of Jesus, then the MORmON favorite of hyping the nearness of THE second coming and then following up with an attempt to sell something related to Jesus' supposedly imminent return. I am not going to make any attempt to deny that I get a kick out of Mills' demise, as that demise so splendidly demonstrates the utter futility and utter idiocy of obsession with preparing for Jesus' return, OF course that means besides making money off of it, see my earlier comment on using Jesus to manipulate (exploit) others. I like self reliance and emergency preparation. They are solid worthwhile themes and endeavors. However, the instant that such themes are mixed with Jesus themes and the notion that Jesus is returning soon, then I get perturbed and irritated. I see that mixing as something intended to exploit people, which is so much the opposite of making them self sustaining and more independent.

LDS inc claims to make its followers better in many ways while it mostly just leaves them poorer, to the real benefit of those at the very top of the MORmON scam. Mills made a career out of emulating MORmON leadership, by claiming to have special appreciation and insights into the way that Jesus works and the nearness of Jesus' return, and then asking for some money. People like that are made to look silly when they live a life so based, so filled, so distracted, so obsessed with an event that, as thing turn out, was not going to happen while they were still alive anyway. People who have believed them look pretty silly too.

When I lived in 'Happy Valley' early 2000's, I listened to KTKK. I only recall him being on air afew times usually as a guest, Mills name was mentioned alot though. Joe Redburn and Joanne, were regular co-hosts on Kirkwoods show. I miss listening to Kirkwood and Stockwells shows.

Looks like their website is a little slow at showing updated schedules. It still lists 'Mills Crenshaw “Drive Time Live” 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm'

Jim Kirkwood passed away in the first part of November 2016.
Jim was an interesting person. He had been raised LDS and attended BYU. For some reason that Jim never fully revealed, he dumped Christianity and converted to Judaism early in his adult life. It is safe to say that such a course of action is indicative of a person who simply is not buying into the New Testament Jesus as being legit. According to Jim, he did meet with Church authorities to review his decision. He was quite insistent about it. He made it clear that they were NEVER going to intimidate him or reel him back in, and that he intended to live a good life according to Jewish standards. Both parties separated with the agreement and understanding of not being hostile to each other, according to Jim. In the interest of sucking up to his MORmON boss at KTKK, Dick Perry, Jim could be found/ heard trying to defend MORmONISM on a regular basis. On several of those occasions, I called in and took Jim apart for his intellectual and moral disparity /failing in that regard, specifically on the character of Joseph Smith. (Cranky) Jim DID get hostile with me over the matter. Much thanks to caller Wendy who followed up by calling in on those occasions and informing /telling Jim that he had been wrong (based on history) and that I had been correct.

I took Mills Crenshaw to task in similar manner/ fashion on several occasions, but the caller is at an extreme disadvantage in such situations because the host can shut them down at any point, and after the caller is silenced then the host can pile on without being rebutted, a proven tactic that Mills used regularly.

In the early 2000s Mills would not have been on KTKK, due to a huge spat/ fight and attendant bad blood between Mills and KTKK owner Dick Perry. Perry is a person quite reminiscent of the TJ character in the Sonic drive in TV ads, except that Perry is much dumber and much more vicious. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7HWsgj1WWE

The fight between Mills and Perry began when (ambitious) Mills decided to start his own radio station (KWUN) in 1998. For the sake of Maximum personal exposure, Mills was willing to keep hosting at KTKK while also ramping up his own station into operation. Dick Perry could ONLY see KWUN as competition which Perry could not stand. ( funny, since KTKK is actually intended to lose money as a tax right off for Perry homes) So Perry insisted that Mills be ousted from KTKK as fitting punishment. Perry also insisted on labeling Mills as a traitor and a bad person to justify what Perry had done.

Perry's aggravation with Mills was only just beginning. Perry followed up with an edict that KTKK staff, most of them being volunteers, were not allowed to lend any kind of assistance to Mill's new broadcast venture. Mills had encouraged many of the staff at KTKK that Mills was very familiar with to assist in Mill's new radio station venture. A lot of the new staff at KWUN were actually old time staff from KTKK that had been alienated by Dick Perry. Unlike Perry, Mills never issued any edict that KWUN staff could not also be involved at KTKK. A lot of Mills KWUN staff had already been banned from working at KTKK , by Perry, so Mills had no need to issue such an edict and came off looking much better than Perry ... for what that is worth. Mills did aggravate the situation by inciting competition between the two stations. Perry hated that. Mills loved it. KTKK radio host SP Romney made the jump to KWUN very soon after Mills was ejected from KTKK. Certain other current KTKK employees / volunteers were assisting at KWUN. It took a while but Perry did fire them as he found out what was going on.

Perry was quite disgusted with the notion of KWUN attempting to directly compete with KTKK -a position that Perry had forced Mills and KWUN into as Perry absolutely refused to cooperate with Mill's ( ill fated) new broadcast venture in any way. Perry explicitly stated on numerous occasions that Mills would NEVER be allowed to come back to KTKK as only proper and fitting punishment for Mills betrayal of KTKK by Mills daring to have his own radio station. Perry was NOT going to tolerate "HIS" people crossing station boundary lines to work or do anything at other stations. Perry was adamant that people needed to understand that kind of broadcasting business propriety and show the proper respect to the station that they worked for ....even if it was as a volunteer. However, on the rare occasions when KSL personalities were willing to do some air time at (lowly) KTKK as guests, (Gooey voice Amanda Dickson to be specific) Perry thought that was great and it (somehow) did not violate Perry's station loyalty edicts, ethics and principles at all.

Unfortunately, KWUN only lasted a few months before it was forced out of operation, but Perry's animus toward Mills remained long after KWUN was defunct. To those familiar with the bitterness of the situation, It was quite remarkable when Mill's protege SP Romney managed to return to KTKK several years later. It took much MUCH longer for Mills to make his way back to KTKK but it was shocking that Mills managed to pull it off. I would love to hear the details of How Mills managed to pull that off. Dick Perry had no comment on the matter at that point.

How Dick Perry treated Mills Crenshaw after the latter started up his own radio station and began raiding the former's staff for hosts is generally how it is done in the broadcasting industry. I know this, because I worked in college radio and keep a close eye on that industry until this day. In addition, it used to be that when local top-40 stations were big, many station owners had legally enforceable clauses in their contracts that forbade disc jockey talent from working for cross-town rivals for up to two years after leaving the station's employ, regardless of whether they voluntarily left or were fired. These noncompete clauses were a big reason why most disc jockeys in the past moved from city to city--they literally couldn't work in the same towns they had worked once they left their employer.

Well, lets say that you are basically correct on that point, because you are. That concession made, I would like to point out another aspect of that situation. Telling Volunteers where they can and can NOT donate their volunteer efforts seems a lot like a situation being about half a click above slavery. You tell me how it seems to you. Guess what! -many Pizza chains/ franchises like to maintain the same level of exclusivity with their pizza delivery drivers. Which I think is crazy and comical. I had my pizza delivery driver friend explain to me about the travails of trying to make a living by being a Pizza delivery driver which includes trying to maintain two or more jobs delivering pizza for different competing pizza chains. It makes espionage look easy.

Relative to the situation with TJ ..... I mean Dick Perry and Mills being in competition with each other, I can divulge more details. After being banned from working at other radio stations, certain volunteers/employees pointed out to Perry that If he really wanted to properly (legally) maintain such control over employees, just as you outlined, then Perry was bound to offer such employees such a contract which would also include that nasty detail of actually being paid. Just like having HIS people working at other competing stations, Perry was not very fond of that concept/idea either. Those employees pointing out such details at the time were seen as being exceptionally demanding by Perry. ....What a bitch that a business man can not just fire EVERYBODY when the need to do so arises !!! It seemed that such employees were very much like girl friends that were attractive enough for Perry to sleep with ....for free, but not attractive enough to marry. One such employee was fired several times, which also means that they had to be rehired almost as many times, for contributing work to other stations which violated Perry's edict about exclusive devotion or complete disconnect to Perry's station. As that situation evolved, Perry was actually finally compelled to pay that little whore (..... all of whopping minimum wage), Which was nothing short of miraculous considering how tight that Perry really was and which was ALSO Perry's way of implying that there was an arrangement that should be respected just the same as a contract even though no real contract actually existed ie the magic of having the benefits of having a contract with out being bogged with having a contract.

Do not worry, It was not too much longer before that employee was fired from KTKK by Perry for the final time, because they made the huge mistake of inadvertently discovering (by wanting to actually do their job which required actually using the station's audio production facilities) that another station employee was attempting to secretly run an internet porn site out of Perry's good MORmON self proclaimed superlative advocate of family values radio station. And (again) do not worry, because the employee attempting to run that internet porn site was NOT fired by Perry. In a truly MORmON context, that makes sense!!! Because when it is all factored out, it is not about whether or not the slaves .....or the teen age girls are going to get screwed, because they are going to get screwed anyway, It is about whether or not they get screwed by the correct person who really is supposed to be in charge. You know, the one person really chosen by God to do it. .....Please Pardon me as I was amused by watching Mills and Dick Perry so fiercely battle it out for that top spot of designate screw master of small time MORmON broadcasting in Utah at one time, and then end up back in bed with each other later on because they really did deserve each other. I should have enough pride to preclude admitting this .....but I don't, I feel entitled to that amusement because I got screwed by both of them (although not nearly as bad as some have been), and that amusement is one of the most substantial positive things left over from being involved with those two MORmON screw artist shysters. If there is a Hell, those two will likely find each other there too.

Yes. I used to listen to Jack Stockwell's show between about 2007 (when I discovered this board) until 2011. I stopped listening to him, however, after the second time he brought his wife, Mary, onto his morning show to discuss relationships. During the first time, it was clear that they didn't agree on everything and that made it fun to listen to. During the second time, however, he just mouthed LDS quotes about marriage with his spouse echoing everything he said. As a nevermo (and glad to be one), I went, "Yuck!" and turned the whole thing off.

Yah, OK, I will answer that question:

Because Mills, just like his filthy vile MORmON church, can so selectively and so completely ignore all the extreme damage that they do to individuals and family as they go about their grossly self serving EVIL (money grubbing) way.

I can speak with authority on the matter because I have felt the blow of the Jesus scammers harder than many. Mills was actively giving Julie Rowe a wide reaching public broadcast forum to promote her brand of Jesus based mental illness. Before Julie Rowe, it was Gayle Smith. Gayle Smith got a hold of my mentally ill spouse. In fairness, maybe my nut case wife would have had a epic melt down any way, but also in fairness, Gayle certainly did not help an already messed up situation. Before Gayle was done, my nut case spouse of the time had a pretty devastating meltdown. All that horrendous damage done just to feed Gayle's sick twisted ego, as Gayle gratified herself by coaching my nut case spouse of the time into a melt down. The following video link features Sharon Jacobs who is also a student/"patient"/ trainee/ subject of Gayle Smith. watch the video to see just how messed up that these people really are. Forget about my lost cause ex wife, the damage done to my children through the course of these events as my wife at the time imploded mentally will NEVER be remedied. and these "Jesus" people, Mills included, do extremely destructive extremely evil works while they think that they are exceptionally good. I have not said it yet, so here goes: the world will be better off without self proclaimed super MORmON Mills Crenshaw. Yes, I am glad that Mills is dead, because perhaps his demise will prevent him from doing some horrendous damage to some one else. The group of nut cases that Mills attracted, and affiliated with, and promoted, managed to mess up my life about as much as possible with their self aggrandizing cultivation of mental illness as Christian religion.

It’s a story about BYU grads who become thieves. Crenshaw’s partner deyoung went to prison and just got out early. Mills just died. It’s not gloating. It’s victims who lost their radio to cons. Didn’t know Joe lost his bar to the IRS. Sadly Joe died at the Y downtown alone.

I was a frequent listener to kTKK during those days, and even met Mills once.

I want to thank all the callers who are on here today that helped me realize that Mormonism was a fraud from the beginning.

I am a much happier person today largely because of your contributions.
