No, the reality of huge student debts while having no marketable skills will take care of that.

That's an interesting take, given that a 2016 Georgetown University study found that "underemployed" levels (those that were either unemployed or employed part-time or in a job that was significantly "below" their skill level) were:

No high school graduation: 18.7%
High school graduates: 12.9%
Some college/Assc. deg: 9.6%
Bachelor's Degree: 6.2%
Graduate Degree: 4.2%

So, it seems that those with "no marketable skills" are mostly those with no marketable skills gained from education.
Go figure.

Listen, there is a reason why gender norms are a thing. There is a reason why the family unit is the bedrock of a healthy, vibrant nation. Human sexuality and gender expression exist within a continuum and are not binary states. Imposed gender and sexual norms don't work. Look at the all too high number of gay Mormons who kill themselves.

yougov polls have been inaccurate on many occasions over the previous few years, most notably with the last general election two years ago, the scottish independence referendum three years ago and the eu in/out referendum last year.

Their polling groups are mainly from London, which does not accurately reflect the whole population, or political activists which, again, does not accurately reflect the entire population.

Students at university away from home are more likely to 'boast' that they are sexually progressive (not prudish - especially in front of new peers) and many may indeed 'experiment' whilst enjoying their new independence and 'freedom' from the restraint imposed by their family/home environment, but this in no way means these same people will identify the same way when they are out in the workforce and away from the institutions they have recently become acclimatised to.

Other polls in the UK have revealed that millenials are more conservative than their counterparts in the 80s & 90s. They have had enough of being told to be ashamed of themselves because they believe in a higher power of some sort, they are fed up of positive discrimination against traditional society in favour of 'sexual identity' minorities. They are fed up of being accused of having racist views for loving their country and respecting the laws of the land. They believe in traditional families and they also believe in marriage being the best environment for raising children.

You can look for and find polls all day long that will provide the answer you wish to aptly demonstrate your political view. However, poll results, like political - and religious - opinions can never be wrong or right, nor can they be correct or incorrect. The only intrinsic value of any 'poll' is to provoke debate, it can never 'prove' anything except that group felt that way on the day they were asked. Taking a poll as equivalent to 'fact/truth' is like trusting only feelings to reveal the truthfulness of a religion.

Human sexuality is complex. This has been known for centuries but the West has had a concept of a gender and sexual binary probably since Christianity. It wasn't always the case.

If you want to make people really unhappy and make life unbearble for them try forcing people to be something they are not against their will. What is known is that is impossible to change someone's orientation or idenity. People have tried drugs, shock therapy, fasting, prayer and so on all to no avail.

What is really at stake is your view of another person's existence -- not their view.

Having two daughters who are in the smack in the middle of this phenomena (one of whom declares herself non-binary and has a girlfriend who used to declare herself a boy, then a girl, then a "them/they*) I put a lot of it down to First World navel-gazing, and too much emphasis on sex.

I could go on and on...but don't want to start a flame war.

I'm just trying to let the older religious people know that they can't remake the world in the image of an imaginary past that never really existed and all attempts to do are bound to fail.

As long as we're using engineering terms to describe the human sexuality of your non-binary daughter, here is some advice that might help. Apply some positive feedback to your daughter's non-inverting input. That will provide her with the hysteresis that she currently lacks. She will either end up being straight or not straight (a difinitive binary result). Or you could just talk to her to find out what she values most, and encourage her in that direction.

The title of this thread is a little misleading, since the UK poll is exclusively about sexuality - not gender. But gender roles are definitely less enforced now, which gives people freedom to experiment and express themselves. Out of my three closest friends (all millennials like myself) one of them is transgender, another is experimenting (she just bought a binder yesterday), and the other is cisgender. And they're all either gay or bisexual. I still identify strongly as a girl and a lesbian, but I fall somewhere between femme and butch.

I can understand a certain small minority of the population who may be somewhat in some middle ground compared to the rest of us, when it comes to their own gender identity. To cause large percentages of the polulation to not identify as either male or female every moment of their lives is strictly a political correctness thing. In an overwhelming majority of cases, biology just doesn't work that way. Nature polarizes the two sexes for a reason, and couldn't care less about politics, or what it's increasingly popular for people to say about themselves. You can't make straight people be bi-sexual or gay, any more than you can 'cure' a person of homosexuality. The survey is junk science and fake news.
