I think the reason the church is leaving the scouts is because financial donations are down at the BSA. The conservative members that don't want gays in the BSA are not contributing like they used to. This has a trickle down effect on the program.

Also, the church wants the money that was going to the BSA to come into the church for its program.

and mormon girls, why can't that participate in a boy scout program that's open to girls.

Whatever the reason, the public perception is that it's about gays. TSCC took an anti-gay posture, BSA is forced to accept gays, TSCC pulls boys out of BSA right after puberty. Tawdry or not, it's juicy news. Kudos to TSCC for finding new and creative ways to look weird.

If that is true, then your postulation must be correct which means more tithing money in the pockets of church leaders.

Eliminating all of Scouting from TSCC programs will be a huge risk.

Mormon culture has thrived on turning out so many Eagle Scouts for decades. It has been a huge, valuable part of them keeping up appearances as "all-American folks". To part with that puts all of Mormon culture in a strange predicament of having one less independent validation. It's almost as drastic as the idea of disbanding the MoTab Choir.

OTOH, mainstream Scouting would be thrilled at losing LDS influence. MANY Scouts and Scout leadership have despised LDS units for years for approving cheesy projects to award Eagle badges, believing that Mormon influence in the process cheapened the honor for those Scouts who didn't belong to LDS units and earned their Eagles with hard work and fair practices.

this is so true. advancement rallies in NYC are often held on kolobian kulture centers and hosted by kolobian "eagle" scouts. these folks are so lame, they can't even teach basic first aid, like how to use a kerchief to fashion a sling.

What about the sexual abuse that occurs in scout troops at the hands of male scout masters? Because the Mo church bases ALL of it's decisions on money and image, is there a chance that the Mo church is finally too toxic for the BSA? And as a result finally shed them.

The MO's have enough money to start their own "program". And they will need a new indoctrination method to keep the boys involved in church shit so my guess is the BSA decided that LDS inc was too toxic. Besides it is well established in non LDS scouting that Mormon Eagles can't fly.

So Mormon eagles are turkeys?

The Mormon church is always, always about control. With this move, the church will control the money that would otherwise go to BSA, control the boys' indoctrination, and control the program (no gays, no girls.)
