I've been listening to podcasts with Gina Colvin and Dan Wotherspoon and am unclear where Thomas Wirthlin McConkie stands in his faith. I'm migrating toward some level of dementia and sometimes don't grasp everything I hear. Please help me out here.

Did you see his money tree?

"Mindfulness Essentials Online Course - $45.00"

I can't find squat about his education... The stories just keep repeating "...he left home at 19, went to Asia and became a buddhist and then realized he was actually mormon and returned to Utah..." ...to make money?

It bugs me that I can't see anything about his relationship history.

I think he did mention one time something about Oscar McConkie as perhaps his grandfather, along with his relationship to Joseph Wirthlin. Oscar I think was a brother to Bruce.

Personally, I would have remained Buddhist.

Oscar, Sr. is the patriarch. Bruce and Oscar, Jr. (the McConkie of Kirton McConkie) are his sons.

I don't know where James fits in.

I was so intrigued by that mormonstories podcast that I had to talk to Thomas McConkie. If you listen to how he interacts with Dehlin, Witherspoon and Colvin - he struck me as the most intriguing “mormon” I’ve listened to.

My own impression is that he’s as Mormon as I am or ever was . . . and brilliant.

He wrote a book about “adult development” in the context of Mormonism. I like his writing, his thinking and the way he talks with people. When I listen to any of his interviews, it seems to me he has a very light touch, doesn’t over-explain and meets people where they are. Quite fascinating.

My take is that he’s intentionally opened a door for many to exit the Mormon Church, though I think his appreciation of all people, including Mormons, is real.

Well thought out and presented!

Plus there is no sense, via Google, of any attempt to create a circus of personality.

I formed the impression of a bit of 'covertness,` which would be explained by the conclusion you drew.
