We have a bunch of old gospel doctrine and BOM teaching manuals. We kept them for proof of former practices and policies that TSCC no longer claims are "doctrine."

Is there any point in keeping these old books, considering the carefully worded plausible deniability used by TSCC to backpedal on their former teachings?

I am thinking of tossing these items unless anyone can think of a good reason to keep this stuff.

Garments have been trashed years ago.

The reasons you cite for having kept them already are valid (IMO). If there are digital copies online, then perhaps you don't need to maintain your personal copies. If not, then perhaps you could provide them!

I don't know any of the details, but I heard that UNLV is trying to collect ALL the old LDS printed material they can get their hands on. I heard it on PostMo(dot)org, and whatever details were given are currently unavailable.

There is, or will be, scholarly interest in such things. They should be entrusted to a legitimate, scholarly, non-religious authority for study. There are colleges which like to collect as much material on a given discipline or person.

What you don't want is for them to wind up in the TSCC mountain vault!

That would be a great resource for the general public as well as for scholars.

Or give them to someone interested in outing mormon lies.

If you you don't want to bother, that's also fine. Just toss them in a dumpster. I'd put them in brown bags to protect dumpster ydivers from reading them and possibly joining up.

Are there any still teaching gospel doctrine in TSCC? It would be fun to teach some lessons out of these old manuals. TSCC could not claim you were teaching anti mormon lies

I’ll never part with my classic copy of Mormon Doctrine, my mission discussions, my scriptures (with “white and delightsome,” as well as other gems), but I suppose most books will fall into “I don’t know that we teach that.”

These sound like the soft back more recent manuals.

If you have the hard bound ones from the 50s or 60s those have real interesting stories in them.

Likewise the old relief society manuals titled out of the best of books. Once upon a time the church wanted women to be more than second class members.

Keep them, if you can. When they came out with the church presidents series of manuals, the HP quorum leader told us that the church had sent instruction to turn in all previous lesson manuals, and you know what that means. I was still active in church, but knew what was coming, so I kept them for a few years. Eventually my wife found them, and it was not quite as strong as coming across someone's porn stash. Still, she reminded me that we were supposed to have turned them in, so she either did that or threw them out. She's a good little soldier of the faith.

I am against book burning of any sort . Recycle and it may be reincarnated as something useful like toilet paper.

I still have my scriptures ( bible and triad combo, since it was given to me when I joined the church by a dear friend who has since passed away.
I still have my student manuals from Sunday School, don't know if these are what you're talking about: 1980 and 81 OT( both manuals)
D&C 1981, BOM 1980, an older 1989one, one on temple ordinances,1987 and a set of stories, poems etc from 1971
The rest are just books by LeGrand Richards, Joseph Fielding Smith and The articles of Faith.

Do not destroy the TBM books.
That's exactly what the cult would like you to do.

Hopefully Forescape can keep them safe.

If not I may be able to "store" them.

How much space would I need?

Tutu
