So I was coming home yesterday and was listening to Christian Baptist Radio and out of no where comes the topic of the hour, porn addictions, (sigh...) Well they got this expert on who read lots of books, Can you guess from where he was from????

...Utah of course. He's spent his time studying all about obsessive porn viewing and how it affects boy's lives (I don't think he was a licensed psychiatrist?). His organization specializes in counselling young men who are caught in the trap of getting aroused, mostly between the ages of 12-19 but I guess any dirty old fart can email him for help too? He said 2 out of 3 guys struggle with what he called lust (having an active sex drive?), and 1 out of 3 ladies.

In all seriousness he said that guys can be watching ESPN sports and all of the sudden there will be a hamburger commercial with juicy meat and WAMM!!!! Your aroused, it's all around us kind of like dust mites or dandruff. So he's been counselling teenagers all over the country interfacing face to face via computers, But the best part is he will soon be competent enough and know enough to fix woman's arousal/porn issues as well. So there you go ladies!

Why does this always have to come from Utah? This self loathing is getting embarrassing. These people should be thanking their lucky stars they have a sex drive! What do they want, for everyone to be a vegetable?

Thoughts?

Oh, brother!

It's hard to believe that certain groups are fixated on this so much in this day and age.
I guess they need to make sure they have things to call sins as part of trying to control everyone's sexual lives.

Shame and guilt are part of the disease they create so they can offer a cure.

OMG! Boys and men are getting aroused!
This new, insidious, horrible thing must be stopped, in the name of God!

And (gasp), women too! Women! Getting aroused! How dare they!

Nothing like this has ever happened before in the history of the world! It's all part of the coming Armageddon!

Many Mormons seem to have no sense of proportion. Even before I finish a beer, my wife is worried that I'm drunk. A woman in my wife's ward checks her husband's browser history and finds a single instance, going back at least month, of him visiting a porn site, and he's branded a porn addict throughout the ward.

I remember my teen years feeling like I was a walking erection. I had no control over it, and I was happy to have books or a notebook that I could carry in front of me as I walked down the hall.

I wonder whether some boys diagnosed with ADHD aren't actually typical teenage boys trying to discretely adjust themselves in class.

It wasn't until years later that I realized it was natural, and that I wasn't the only teenage boy with this issue.

I can only imagine the self-stigmatization drummed into Mormon teens going through puberty and being betrayed for "wrongful arousal" by their own out-of-control hormones. That kind of environment does not lend itself to a healthy understanding of human sexuality.

Heh.
Not that she would, but if my wife DID check my "browser history," and find a porn site, she wouldn't brand me a porn addict.
She'd ask if I found anything fun we could try together.

:)

Y'all need to learn about browsing the web in "Incognito Mode", and then go out and preach *that* gospel.

The Mormon church's obsession with porn seemed to come out of nowhere. Does anyone remember how this started? Did it stem from a General Conference priesthood meeting? I wonder what got the church going about that? It's not like porn is something new. Maybe the church was embarrassed because at one point, Utah had one of the highest number of people using porn-subscription websites in the nation.

I see it as the church seeing money going somewhere other than the church. Has nothing to do with porn per se, but the money going to porn sites. They see it as cutting into their 10% church tax. Same goes for gambling.

SAME for coffee-tea & tobacco; they were economic drains not benefitting 'the saints'

My guess is that it has to do with the rise of the Internet since the 1990s and early 2000s. It's a way to be able to condemn the evils of the internet without being so obvious about their actual goal of keeping the sheeple from learning the truth about Joseph Smith and Mormonism in general.

Also, it creates an atmosphere of spying on kids and spouses. Fear of getting caught will inhibit many from wandering onto porn sites and so-called "anti-mormon" websites - at home, anyway.

I don't believe the guy could be mormon because the mormon church does not believe women can be sexual beings.

What about women who obsessively read romance novels? That's some downright pornographic content, yet it's the man who is destroying the family? I mean, at least the man has to hide it and do it on the sly, but women sit right there in church and in the livingroom reading as if it was nobody's business.

This is the shit that made me so mad about the church while I was TBM. I remember I asked my older brother about oral sex. He said the church has taken the stance to stay out of the bedroom, but they have said that if it is not giving than it is selfish. I thought as a horny Jr. in High School in that moment, "in order to give, someone has to receive, what is wrong with head?"

Later on my mission, I had this conversation with many elders. One in particular said that oral sex was mocking god. It was sort of funny that I was talking to a DL who was laid back and knew this ZL elder and said, "oh yeah, I can see that douche now, he is making out with his wife and she starts kissing him down his chest, over the belly button and then starts to play the flesh flute. Hey, what the heck are you doing!" NOT!

At the end of the day folks, arousal is as normal as looking at a candy store and drooling over the many flavors and colors. If god created all things, then he created this sickness. Moreover, if he created the devil, then God created all toxic things known to the spirit. Therefore, who is really to blame? It wasn't adam, and it wasn't me.

It isn't just Utah.

Sex generally is considered dirty and obscene around the world.

I live in eastern Washington and a couple years ago there were women on the news going to the city to protest espresso stands with scantily clad ladies. They claimed that was dangerous for the children, but I couldn't figure out how.

It occurred to me that these women simply didn't want competition. If they could have monopoly control over their man's sexual desires, less effort required to get his money.

As further evidence of such:

"A woman in my wife's ward checks her husband's browser history and finds a single instance, going back at least month, of him visiting a porn site, and he's branded a porn addict throughout the ward."

Seems like the ladies are promoting the war on porn. Women are more interested in church than guys. So leaders need to give women what they want, then women can control their husbands and make them do church, and make them contribute tithing. Especially effective if the wives have monopoly control over their husbands through shaming and disciplinary action.

"Sex generally is considered dirty and obscene around the world."

Surely that is excessive. There are large parts of Asia and Africa where sex is considered a natural part of life and has no negative association. The same is true of the more secularized parts of Europe.

------------

"It occurred to me that these women simply didn't want competition. If they could have monopoly control over their man's sexual desires, less effort required to get his money."

That passage is strikingly misogynistic. It shows a profound misunderstanding of women and hence of men and healthy relationships as well.

-------------

". . . leaders need to give women what they want, then women can control their husbands . . . Especially effective if the wives have monopoly control over their husbands through shaming and disciplinary action."

Again and again, you reduce human connections to "control." That is not how loving relationships function, and it isn't how happy people think.

Porn on talk radio?

No good. For porn to be really good, it needs pictures.

I am going to try to use Mormon logic and reasoning; which is dangerous. So if members hear about sex education for young persons in schools, then they go crazy. "My children aren't going to be exposed to that nonsense. The more kids hear about sex will lead to experimentation and abominable fornications."

Now using that logic, how do they turn around and justify the endless church campaigns against porn and self-arousal?

tweens & teens WILL LEARN ABOUT SEX with few exceptions.

those exceptions to word-of-mouth talk from peers often experiment, with less than good outcomes in many cases...

to those adults, 'abstinence' is the only option; RIGHT.

It just always has to come from Utah, that's what bothers me. I'm sure the rest of the nation is laughing at us.
